sharp twinges in cervix? anyone?

Hey ladies,

So, I'm feeling really nervous. I've been feeling sporadic sharp twinges in my cervix area since I was driving home from work yesterday. It's happened a number of times, including when I woke up in the middle of the night. I called my ob, and she said I'm too early for incompetent cervix and that if my body was "trying to expel the fetus" there would be a lot of blood and cramping. Indifferent Well, I'm not having that. I did check the baby with the doppler, and the heartbeat is going strong. I already have my monthly appointment with my ob tomorrow morning, and she said she will take a look and make sure there's nothing "unusual" going on. Man, and I thought 2nd tri meant I could relax! If anyone has any input, I would be so grateful.

  • I was worried also because I get pain and pressure in between my legs.  The baby isn't totally out of the pelvis yet and there are lots of nerves etc.  So my dr. told me at this point he hears a lot of common complaints.  Maybe that is what is going on with you too.  I would trust your dr. and since you have an appt. tomorrow I am sure you will get some more answers. I also had this with my daughter and she was born at 41 weeks 3 days :)

  • I have been having similar pains, and I told my ob about them at my appointment last week.  We heard the heartbeat, and she said it's pretty normal... just our bodies adjusting for the baby.  I hope everything is alright!  My thoughts are with you.

  • Thank you ladies! I hope it is just things stretching out and pulling on nerves or something. Thanks for the support. :)

  • I get a similar pain, but I can tell it isn't my cervix because pressing on the surface makes it feel better/worse. My OB nurse said it's muscle irritation from a quickly growing uterus.
  • I've been having the same thing. I think it's pretty normal.

  • You are probably describing, um, "lightning crotch".  Not a scientific term, mind you, but pretty darn accurate.

This is my 3rd pg...its something I have felt all 3 times.  No worries!

  • Lightning Crotch...yes, I have felt it MUCH earlier with this pg, but have had it for about a month or so, on and off.  The twinges come and go, any time of day,  Lovely, the things your body does during pregnancy!
