Food help please

I am hungry but not in the mood for a thing! Does anyone have go-to meals they've been dining on recently? I have to go to the store tomorrow and want to plan some meals so I will actually eat. I ate cake and chips today. No good. Haven't gained anything yet and I know its because I haven't been eating. Just want to enjoy my food and not have to force myself but until then.....any help please. Thanks.

Re: Food help please

  • My DH and I make homemade pizza.  We buy pre-made plain pizza crusts and then put the toppings we want on it (we usually buy fresh mozzarella cheese and grate that ourselves it ups the taste!).

I love, love, love pasta.  I made a huge batch of meat sauce and froze it in 2 cups portions so it could be easily thawed and made quickly during the week (we are both teachers).  Macroni Grill box meals where all you do is add chix are great.  I also made a roast and shredded it for French Dips and save chunks for beef stew in the future.

    Hope this helps.

  • For me fresh stuff has been really good.  I have been staying away from heavy foods.  We actually went out and bought a ton of fruit today.  We're making chicken and steak kabobs tomorrow for dinner.  I'm not completely sure what we'll make to go with it,  but it sounds good to me.  Oh, and thin crispy not too greasy pizza.

We're doing that tomorrow night!  I was going to suggest the same exact thing!!

What about easy things to heat up, like Bagel Bites?  Those are good even when microwaved.  Also mac n cheese? Or Chef Boyardee?  That's quick and easy and pretty tasty.

  •  wish I could help you but I am the same way! Nothing ever sounds good to me and when I do eat I get really full fast. Haven't gained anything either.
  • It's strange, but nothing sounds good to me either. Even though the morning sickness is gone and I have been able to enjoy food for a little over a month now, I still don't seem to know what to eat now. Definitely haven't had any cravings. Basically when i go grocery shopping, i buy as many fresh fruits as I can and make a point to try to have at least a serving or two of those each day. Then for actual meals, i just try to figure out what is healthy and tolerable even if I am not in the mood for it. I eat a lot of oatmeal for breakfasts. Fruit & peanut butter or fruit and cottage cheese for lunch or the age old sandwhich. Dinners I havent had much imagination lately (which sucks because usually i love cooking). Try things that are quick and easy. I just made a chicken with avacado salsa the other night. It wasn't what sounded good but i made it cause it was easy and i knew it was good for me/baby. Always try to squeeze in some fresh or steamed veggies too. Anyways the moral of my ramblings is plan meals that may not sound good but that you know are good for you and that you can tolerate. Make easy stuff to keep yourself from getting discouraged and just ordering pizza instead. And try to eat as healthy as possible!

    good luck!

  • I haven't felt like anything sounds good lately either.  And I love to cook, so this is a problem.  But I second the pizza idea and the roast.  Another easy way to make a roast is to put it in the crock pot on low all day with 1 jar of banana peppers.  I use mild.  I don't usually like peppers, but it give the meat a tangy taste and it's great on sandwiches!  And how about lasagna, spaghetti, beef and noodles.  Oven fried chicken is good.  Get chicken pieces and coat them in bisquick.  Put them in the oven at 400 for 40 min. skin side down, turn them and bake them for 15 more min. very easy!  Hope this helps.
  • I'm a fan of baked potatoes.  Like the Mitch Hedberg joke, I'll pop one in even if I don't want one, because by the time they're done, who knows.  The prep is quick & easy, and then I can forget about them until I start smelling them for dinner.  If I'm feeling oogy by the time they're done I can just add a little salt, pepper & butter, but if not I can put on broccoli, sharp cheddar cheese, chili (I always have at least a quart in my freezer, lol), sour cream, lots of scallions, whatever I want.

  • When nothing sounds good I eat pasta. Usually kraft mac and cheese, sometimes with chicken nuggets. Also cereal and TONS of fruit. I have been eating Chef Boyardee as PP suggested. Not as good as I remember as a kid but it's easy and it has a full serving of vegetables. We also have had tacos and sloppy joes a lot lately.

  • Thanks ladies! Your suggestions did help. Some of the things I have been doing but they do get old. I see I am not alone. Thought by now I would be more hungry. Not that I want to balloon up but looking forward to enjoying food again! I think I will make a big batch of homemade spaghetti sauce to last me awhile. That does sound yummy. Cereal and fruit are what I usually snack on when nothing else sounds good. The other day my husband wanted pizza and I was indifferent but once I ate a piece it actually tasted good. I added a huge bowl of broccoli to it cause it sounded tolerable.

Thanks again. Helps to ask people who understand!

  • Mac and cheese is my go-to. Even when absolutely nothing else sounds good, I can usually still eat that. I like the Annie's organic kind from a box, even though boxed mac and cheese grosses DH out. ;)
