so, we moved to Israel 4 months ago and I did not have a OB/GYN until I found out I was pregnant. I had a M/C before I had my DD and a very difficult pregnancy (pre-term labor scares since the 27th week), but a wonderful and easy brith and a healthy child - Thank G-d. So, I have my appoinment tomorrow with him (5 weeks). So there will be not much to see, but I still want him to do a U/S. But then I want to see and hear the heartbeat as soon as possible also, but they already said the next appointment is in a month from now. But I am terrefied of having a m/c and I need to see that everything is okay. What do you suggest re timing? Not have it tomorrow, beg him to do both because I am worried? I am so thrilled for tomorrow but also scared out of my mind!!!!!
BTW: in Israel its normal to go to a Dr for prenatal care and give birth with a midwife. Midwifes cannot do prenatal care
.
Re: your opinion re first appointment timing
I'm sorry about your previous loss.
I agree with PP. You won't be seeing much at a 5 week appointment. I say save yourself the trouble and go in at 9 weeks. It's going to be hard I'm sure, but the truth is, just because things are on track at the first appointments, it doesn't ever promise us anything
PP, I'm sorry about your sister. There are no words for that.
Sorry about your sister's baby. I cannot imagine!
I wrote my question rather complicated. I meant, do a dating U/S now at 5 weeks and see how many and how old. and in 2 or 3 weeks a quick peak if the heat is beating and everything is okay. My last OB in New York did U/S all the time! I think i had 3 by 10 weeks. I know its not going to be that way here. Oh, I need my mommy
.
And thanks. It was clear from week 20 that he had multiple organ malformations, but my sister chose to carry to term. With baby #2, she was a nervous wreck, but my nephew is perfect. Good luck, OP, I hope this pregnancy is healthy and uneventful!
I would wait. I mean an u/s at 5 weeks would set your mind (somewhat) at ease, but there's still so much time to wait to even see a heartbeat. We also had a miscarriage before our first child, and had seen the heartbeat several times before losing the baby at 9 weeks. So I've learned to just TRY to be patient, and I'm going in for my first u/s for this baby at 8 weeks. At that point, they should be able to see a heartbeat, and accurately date the pregnancy...I can only pray that all is going well in there, I'm definitely anxious!
Also,
