Can any of you ladies tell me about your birthing experiences at Presby Dallas? It is the only hospital my OB delivers at so I'm just trying to get a feel for it before delivery day.
I haven't delivered there yet - I will as soon as this LO decides to come. But a friend of mine delivered there naturally this spring. She loved the nurses and had a wonderful experience with them being very flexible and open to her desires for NCB.
I did have a good experience with my lamaze natural childbirth classes as well. We'll see how the actual L&D goes!
I delivered there almost 2 years ago and I had a great experience. I was induced 8 days late and ended up in a c-section due to not dilating. Everyone was awesome and I loved my doctor. We live in Rockwall and I will definitely be choosing that hospital to deliver at again.
I've had both of my babies there and will be having my twins there in December. I love the hospital (bonus is they just redid the postpartum rooms). I really love that there is a top notch NICU right there.
I've had scheduled c-sections with both of mine so I've spent quite a bit of time there and I never want to leave!
I just delivered my daughter 2 and a half weeks ago at Presby Dallas. I LOVED my experience there. The nurses and staff were amazing. Everyone was incredibly helpful and supportive. I especially loved the baby nurses.
I will definitely be going back there when we decide to have our second child.
Thanks so much for the responses. I spent 1 night in L&D after falling down my stairs and everyone was so helpful. I'm glad to hear that it seems to be a constant thing there. I feel like I've made the right choice in hospitals. I can't wait to have this LO.
I had my daughter there about 2.5 years ago and it was fine, but not as great I was expecting. It was really a little odd giving birth in a basement with a fake window in the room. Considering babies are such a big business at that hospital, I would think they could make L&D a little nicer...
Also, they are NOT natural birth friendly, IMHO. They talk about how they have a tub you can labor in, but when I asked about it while in labor, they said it hadn't been used in years and needed to be cleaned. Umm... ok. I was also told by the anesthesiologist that if I didn't have an epidural, I would mess up his 99% epidural rate. Nice.
I delivered both of my kiddos there and LOVED it! They just remodeled their rooms too so it's like new. I had a great experience both times and will go back if I have any more babies. You can take a tour of the hospital to get more familiar - did that with my first baby and it was helpful.
Just delivered there 3 weeks ago via c-section. LOVED it! The staff in L&D is great - very caring and make sure to tell you what is happening and why each step of the way. The emphasis on skin to skin contact immediately after birth is great - I think it made a HUGE difference in how well breastfeeding is going and how calm my baby is.
The nurses on the maternity floor are great too! Your hubby can room in, which we did the first night. After that, my hubby slept at home so that at least one of us was rested and the dog had somewhat of a "normal" routine.
One thing to do/ask if this makes a difference to you - ask the nurses for a menu so you can pick your meals. otherwise, you just get what they send up. When your world has been turned upsidedown and you are getting used to being a new mommy, it is nice to have some control over one aspect of life - picking meals is a small thing but can make you feel better. Also, the nurses have some snacks for patients (graham crackers, pudding, jello) but you may want to supplement with your own. Bring fresh fruit! The food isn't bad, but funny how new moms are preached to about eating fruits, veggies, whole grains and low fat dairy yet none of this is available automatically on the food trays brought up. This is why I recommend picking from a menu (you can select additional items) and bringing your own snacks.
I delivered there last Nov and also had a great experience. I had 2 L&D nurses (shift change) and liked them both but really loved Julia. I really liked that they are a "baby friendly" hospital - this means that they have to meet certain criteria to promote breastfeeding.... most of the nurses are able to help you with nursing even if a LC is not on duty (though there is one there at most times)... they are really great about asking you if you want your baby supplemented w/formula, if you want your baby to get a paci, if you want your baby to room in w/you, etc. they respect your wishes, whatever they may be. i really appreciate this. i also got about 1 hr for skin to skin and nursing w/my baby immediately after she was born, before they took her to the nursery for her first bath. so important i think.
