2nd Trimester

At home dopplar suggestion

Does anyone have an at home dopplar suggestion for an overweight, nervous first time mom?! Thanks! Embarrassed

Re: At home dopplar suggestion

  • If you're already in the 2nd tri (and even in the 1st tri, really), honestly I'd say to not even bother for a couple reasons.  It's hard to find a heartbeat anyway, and you'll just make yourself more crazy.  Also, you're going to be feeling the baby in a few weeks.  By the time you order one and it comes to you, depending on where you are in your pregnancy, you may be feeling it already.  And you see the doctor between time.  I'm personally not a fan of home dopplers.

  • I agree with the pp. Quite a few people have discovered that they were listening to their own heartbeats for weeks.

Have patience, have faith, and soon that peanut will be giving you frequent reassurance.

  • I recommend the Sonoline B. I ordered it on Amazon for about $65 after hearing it recommended by others. We heard the heartbeat for the first time around 11 weeks. You have to make sure you're not listening to your own, because that's easy to do, but once you do find baby's you will hear that they are very different!  I still use it about once a week, especially if I haven't felt baby much because now I don't even need to search for the heartbeat, I can hear LO moving around and it gives me just as much peace of mind.

  • I have the Angelsounds doppler and it has worked well for me since I got it at 15 weeks.  I bought it off Amazon for $27.  It's easy to tell the difference between your HB and the baby's, since the baby's is a lot faster than yours.  Good luck.

I agree with this.  I still use it, and still LOVE IT!  My son even loves it!  There are days when one baby isnt moving as much, and it gives me piece of mind that there is still a heartbeat.

Also, it is very easy to find your own heartbeat.  The one thing I noticed, though, is that mine is always aroun 80-90 and baby is much higher...usually aroun 130-150.  And, I've gotten my placenta a few times, also.  That usually goes from about 90-110. HTH and GL!

  • I love my sonoline b 3mhz.  I am also overweight and have been able to hear the heartbeat.  I bought it for about $40 on amazon.

  • I also have a Sonoline B, but I've probably only used it 3 times.  I didn't want to over-use it, and now that I can feel the baby move, I don't really need to.  I'd skip it if I were you, but, that said, if you do get a doppler, the Sonoline B is a good one.

  • I have the Sonoline B 3mhz as well and have been able to hear the hb since 9w6d. For me, it's been great for peace of mind until I can feel the baby move.

  • Sonoline B 2mhz is better if you are overweight and it is cheaper.  even at 12 weeks I have heard the heartbeat.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions ladies! I really appreciate it!
  • Ok so I bought the sonoline B, and I really think I am listening to my own heartbeat, lol. My doctor was able to put his dopplar right by my belly button and hear the heartbeat, but yet I hear nothing on mine. I move it all around, and get a heartbeat of about 85-90 which I know it mine! I am overweight, about 225, is that why this is happening?
