February 2011 Moms

"Best" comment you have received since announcing...

Last night my SIL and MIL announced to everyone they think I will be having a girl because my "a$$ is so HUGE!".  Awkward moment of silence...then I thought to myself that this will make an interesting conversation if I end up having a boy.

What about you ladies, has anyone pulled this with you?!  It's going to be a long next few months until February!  Huh?

  • How nice of your SIL/MIL.

One of our buddies posted on FB. "I love you both, but I hope you know your lil Ginger baby will be a demon."

Lil Ginger is because my husband has bright red hair, and demon because both DH and I were crazy as kids. Although some people wouldn't find humor into someone calling their kid a demon, I thought it was great.

  • I haven't had any terrible comments so far, the only annoying thing that seems to keep popping up, is when I tell someone about the pg and they ask how far along I am, several people follow that with "wow, so you must have JUST found out!" I got this most recently by a few people at 14 weeks, by women who have had children. When the heck did they find out?? It just bothers me for some reason...

  • My uncle at my Grandpa's funeral this weekend:

"You aren't finding out what you're having, are you?"

     "We are, yes"

"Well don't tell me what it is."

((annoyed)) "Okay, I'll keep that in mind..." Hmm

"I just think not finding out until it's born is the way it's supposed to be.  All babies are miracles, but it's so much MORE of a miracle when you're there and find out after it's born."

My uncle was never married, no kids, has definitely NEVER been in a delivery room.  If my child wasn't as much of a miracle because I knew he was a boy ahead of time and this one won't be as much of a miracle again, maybe I just won't tell him when the baby's born at all...

  • I haven't received anything yet (well, except for a douchebag contractor who said "that's permanent, you know" and then probably felt like an ass a few minutes later when I told him my first child died), but I had a few during my last pregnancy.

DH's aunt was angry that nobody told her I was pregnant (we weren't telling yet except for our parents, but apparently she could tell).  Later that day, she told me she said she knew I was pregnant the second she saw me.  Then she told me that I was carrying in the back.  I said, "I'm 10 weeks.  I'm not carrying anywhere yet."  Biitch.

  • After I told my male principal, he said congrats and gave me a first bump. Then he immediately pulled up my schedule for this upcoming year to make sure it was conducive to pumping and they wouldn't have to make any changes. It's great that I work in an environment where people will make compromises with you about that type of stuff, it was still just a little weird to be talking about with my principal.

  • a girl who I went to high school with now lives her life as  a man- had her breasts removed, takes testosterone, and all.  I grew up with him and we are friendly-  I don't at all judge the lifestyle he has chosen.  We ran into each other at church and when we were talking about the baby he asked if we knew what we were having-  i said who knows, boy or girl, we are waiting to find out.  He replied 'or it could be like me haha'.

It was just an odd comment that I had no idea how to respond to-  I was just like haha, yeah.

I am also sick of being asked if #2 was planned and told how much my life is going to suck when the baby gets here-  yeah, it will be a lot of work, i get it, thanks...

  • I got a similar comment when I was PG with DD.  Last year when I announced that I was PG, my brothers girlfriend insisted that she knew because my a$$ was huge.  Lovely

  • My supervisor who literally said, "You're not going to leave for three months are you???" as her first comment after I announced in a meeting I was pregnant. I was like, "Um, yeah. I am. I think it's really important." And not to mention guaranteed by FMLA. Angry

Since then I heard she's been telling everybody she thinks I will leave. I am SO tempted, if only we could afford it...sigh...

  • My grandma said I'm like an elephant. After an awkward silence from me, she amended & said I'm STRONG like an elephant because I haven't been sick and I'm not on bedrest yet.

Funny, I never knew elephants are the only creatures alive to not get m/s.

Directly after calling me an elephant, she asked if I'm REALLY SURE I'm actually pregnant.

  • Brothers are the best at "nice" comments.... First off when I told my youngest brother he asked me if I went to the sperm bank ( I have no idea where he got this because me and my boyfriend have been together and serious for four years) the he looked puzzeled when I said NO!!!!!! Then my other brother replied with "I was wondering why you were starting to get a gut!!!!!!" Geez.... They made me feel so good!! LOL

  • i've gotten a few strange comments, but i think my top annoying one is when people ask immediately what i'm going to do about work. i am a teacher and i did just get a new job, but still, i don't think people would ask if i worked in a job that did not have a summer break.

the immediate comment that dh's best friend asked was how long we had been trying. we told him and he responded that it took a while and implied that there was something wrong with dh. we know it took a while, thanks.

  • I think I've got a doosy...We told the parents at 7 weeks and my dad's reply was "don't get too excited, you might lose it." Good thing I'm in therapy already!
  • When I called my grandma to tell her I was pregnant, her first comment was, "Oooh, now maybe you'll finally get some boobies!"  Thanks grandma.  I didn't choose to be a tiny A, I'm pretty sure some of your genes had a part in making me little!

  • When we told my SIL, she said "I figured something was up - she was extra biiitchy when we were there last"...um, maybe b/c you were here and DID NOTHING to help, not one dish, not one thing!  Maybe that's why I was biiitchy....Angry
  • My dad's reply when I got "forced" to tell him at 4 wks pg was "Ok.  Sorry if I don't get all excited just yet."

I've had 2 losses so I understand the apprehension but jeeze, I went home and cried.

Now he knows how far along I am, without even having to ask.  So his excitement is starting to show.

  • Someone asked me if I was going to get rid of the furry beast in my sig pic. Hmm

  • My grandmother who is known not to say the nicest things threw her hands up and said "I cant handle any more babies mandi!. We do have a rather large family and thats mostly due to her part in having 5 kids. So now that the grandchildren are starting to have babies I guess she feels it is too much. I just chalk it up to old age and grumpiness. We have been getting the, "enjoy the crying, its going to be soo much work, why are you starting over" comments from other random people. Yes i have a 6 soon to be 7 year old in a month but I dont see it as starting over. And duh I know babies cry and they are hard work, Im not asking you to take care of the kid. Stick out tongue

  • Wow, people are amazing.  Why do they think it's okay to say these things?  My brother said, "Holy crap."  And then after a few minutes, "You guys aren't going to be any fun anymore."  Ok, then.  Thanks for your support.

Another thing that bothers me is when people say, "Is this a good thing?" or "Were you trying?"  You know what?  We were trying, but either way it is NONE of your business.  If I'm telling you, it's obviously happening right?  Argh!

  • imagestarlily313:

Someone asked me if I was going to get rid of the furry beast in my sig pic. Hmm

I got this from my mother! Told her she wouldn't have a relationship with her grandchild if it was brought up again.

    I think it's a tossup between:

    1. My sister is mad at us that we haven't found out the gender yet.  I was abt 13 weeks at the time, and asked her if she knew who had found out the gender so early... she referenced a character on a freaking soap.

    2. The people who verbally count back to see when we got pregnant, whether or not it was before our engagement

    3. The coworker who asked me how I got pregnant.

Mom to a beautiful boy and girl!
  • Geez, I've had so many "great" comments, that it's hard to pick just one.  They're all comments about how large I am for only being 14 wks.

It's my second kid, and really, I've only gained 6 lbs. But yeah, I know I look further along than I am.  It makes me worry that I'll be huge by the end of my pregnancy, and that my baby will be ginormous.

    DD1
  • Most people at work tell me I'm crazy to be "starting over". My DD is going to graduate high school this year - but who says that means I am finished parenting her??  Also, my boss thinks I'm too old (he's older than my father, so not surprising he would think that way really)...some people just don't know when to keep their opinions to themselves!!  Smile
  • One terrible comment which is not funny at all came from my grandfather. His one and ONLY comment about me being pregnant was "You better not think about working after the baby is born!" Well Pop, if I had the option of being a stay-at-home mom I'd take it in a heartbeat. But unlike all your other grandchildren, my husband and I support ourselves rather than relying on your money! I swear I can't do anything right in that man's eyes.

I'm the only grandkid that lived my life the way my parents and grandparents wanted me to live it, yet I'm the only one to ever disappoint. My parents don't feel this way, but he has made that quite clear! Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive, but my grandfather has always been like a second father to me and I've always had a lot of respect for him. But this whole pregnancy thing is a last straw with him. I'm going to have to have a talk with him.
