Thank you notes

My mom was telling me that her friend is just now sending thank you notes for her wedding from LAST June!

It got me thinking, I have not received thank you notes from 2 friends' kids bday, 1 graduation gift, and 1 wedding... just from earlier this Spring/Summer.

Am I the only one who still makes sure to send thank you notes?! Is it a lost tradition?

  • I am a stickler for thank you notes.  I write them for everything.  The only time I slacked was after DS was born.  I was too shell-shocked from everything and didn't really care, but I eventually ended up doing my best and writing them from memory of what people brought in the first few days.

  • We sent our thank you notes 2 days after our wedding, same with my baby shower. Thats just how my mom raised me. I know DH's family  doesnt do thank you notes. I think its important to give thanks.
  • I always send them but rarely receive any.....

  • I always do.  I am so old fashioned though, I love paper and stationery, especially ones that are personalized!
  • I always send them. I'm not always super fast about them - but I do get them out. My MIL says she never does thank yous. She thinks it's a waste of time

  • I always send thank yous for things like my baby shower, gifts after DD was born, etc.  I will send thank yous for her first birthday.

I don't send thank yous for random gifts where the person who gave them to me is right there and I thank them right away.

  • I always send them , but haven't received one for the last 2 weddings and birthday party I attended.  I guess no one else thinks they are necessary.
  • I always send them, but don't always get them.

  • I guess I'm the minority here. I don't see the point in sending a thank you note when the person is standing right there and you can thank them when you open the gift. Now if they send something, that's different.

  • I am such a freak about writing thank you notes that I generally do it the night of or day after we have a party. I wrote my wedding thank yous on the way to your honeymoon and then mailed them when we got there. I have been to a few of my friend's LO's functions and never gotten a thank you. Technically you have a year to write  thank you per etiquette, but I think that is stretching it.
