I finally made the switch from my doctor...to a women's health clinic with a midwife. I am thrilled, and I haven't even met the midwife yet- but she comes highly recommended by my L&D nurse friends.
The clinic I was being seen at was one I was the Head Nurse at, so all the staff there knew me. It was just too akward each time I went, to have all these nursing staff that I once directly supervised knowing my medical history. My primary care physician and I became good friends, so she essentially fired me as a patient due to conflict of interest (which was the right thing to do) and set me up with a family medicine doc for my OB care. We just didn't click, and his eyes about bugged out of his head when we were discussing birth and I stated that I didn't want any sort of internal fetal monitoring because it has not been proven to increase birth outcomes. I knew at that point I needed a midwife that would allow me to have the crunchy granola birth that I want.
I was getting conflicting information from the FP doc and the OB doc in the clinic- FP doc would tell me one thing, OB doc would tell me another. It made me question their credibility.
The last straw was when I went to the clinic on Monday for symptomatic orthostatic hypotension, and none of the FP or OB docs were there- I ended up seeing another doc that I can't stand, and was completely blown off. Standards of care were not met, and now he knows all my business too. Argh.
On Wednesday I visited the women's health clinic and asked to switch to their services. No one there knows me, I have never supervised any of them, and I can just be a patient like everyone else. I love it.
