I am so fuming... HR claims it was an unfortunate coincidence, but within a few days of the corporate office being notified of my pregnancy, I was "mysteriously" dropped from the company health plan!
I had three weeks of being lied to, given the runaround, and even threatened by one of our benefits administrators (an outside contractor). Yesterday my supervisor had sent me to headquarters to get the situation straightened out. Which after the president of the contracting company calling me (yeah, so when I realized HR wasn't doing jack, I maybe called every single employee in the 30-person contracting company, except the biitch who threatened me) and yelling at me till I had a panic attack, the head of HR approached me, told me to please stop calling benefits, and to please take the rest of the day off with pay; I'd get reinstated today. I told her I'd see her in court if that didn't prove true.
A few hours ago, I got the official notice that I'm reinstated and that my new card is in the mail. But I'm still beyond livid with my employer, and need some advice on damage control.
This morning I was back at my desk on client site... the new girl walked into my cube and asked me how I was doing.
Me: Terrible. I'm still uninsured. Too bad (our employer) doesn't give a shiit about its employees.
Her: Huh. Well, I've never had a problem.
Me: You've been here two weeks. Trust me, the second you get pregnant, they'll drop you off the insurance like they did me.
I'm pretty supervisor and his boss (who HATES me) heard, but nobody's said anything to me yet. Advice on damage control? I still kind of want revenge on my employer for what they put me through, but can't afford to get fired before my lease is up...
Re: Insurance wars w/employer... need advice on damage control
If you want to damage control, or need your Job, I wouldn't bring it up any more. What they did was frustrating and wrong, but stomping around b1tching about what happened isn't going to help your case.

I agree with the previous post. I understand how frustrated you are, but when it comes to problems with the employer (especially if the main issue has been resolved) it's best to just not mention it again.
You don't want them to get any ideas when you take your maternity leave which is usually a great opportunity for an employer to find an excuse for you not to come back. Maybe you should start looking for another job.
I'm sorry you're going through that. It isn't fun working for a company that doesn't want to take care of it's employees. They don't understand that without employees their company wouldn't be able to run. It's rare to find a company that truly cares.
PREACH! I totally agree with you.
