Sleeping on my belly

I am almost done with 13 weeks but my belly is not showing too much so I still sleep on my belly at night (my favorite position!!). I don't know what am I going to do when I can't do that anymore...

Anyways, my question is when is it time to switch sleeping on a side or even on my back?? (urgh... not looking forward to that!!)

Thanks,
Felicia

Re: Sleeping on my belly

  • I was actually about to ask that as well.  Ive never been a belly sleeper until i got pregnant :)  Now im not comfortable any other way!  I hope we dont have to switch too soon

  • Well you arent supposed to sleep on your back after your 1st trimester uless you are propped up because the weight of your uterus presses on your aorta and blocks blood flow.  I still sleep on my stomach but it is getting alittle uncomfortable.  With DS I slept on my side with a pillow between my legs and this was more comfortable.  Also I would prop my belly on a pillow sometimes too when on my side.  You will get used to it eventually!

  • I would start getting into the habit of sleeping on your side now. I still end up on my back sometimes, though.

  • I sleep on my belly all the time too.  I'm going to as long as I can.  I bend one of my legs up sometimes so I'm not directly on my belly.  And since we're not supposed to sleep on our back anymore after the 1st trimester, I am also dreading having to sleep on my side when my belly gets too big.  I'm sure I"ll get used to it and it'll all be worth it at the end.  A pregnancy pillow may also be a good investment.

  • I am a belly sleeper and HATE sleping on my back.  From what I understand pregnant women are suppose to sleep on their left side when big pregnant...that leave me staring at my DH all night so here is my plan.

I am going to sleep on my stomach as long as I possibly can.  Lately it has gotten a little more uncomfortable so I prop a pillow under one of my legs/hips and sleep mostly on my belly but a little tipped to the side, still love it.  When it is time for me to switch and sleep on my back/side I am going to make my DH sleep on the other side of the bed. I have been meaning to do this anyway because he is closer to the bathroom and I basically have to run a obstacle course every time I wake up in teh middle of the night.

Until then...I will sleep on my belly!

  • I'm still sleeping on my belly.  My problem is that I fall asleep on my side, and end up waking up on my belly.  I can't help it.

  • I am still sleeping on my belly and will till I can't any more.

After that try the side lying position

  • I'm a belly sleeper too! I asked my doctor at my appointment last week and he said your probably okay to sleep on your stomach until 20 weeks. I don't know if I will that long, but it was comforting to know I can at least do it for a little longer!
  • I've always been a belly sleeper too but have been using a body pillow since I found out I'm pg and am mostly sleeping on my side now.  It takes some getting used to, but since I'll eventually have no choice, I'm kind of glad to be getting used to it now.

  • I sleep on my stomach too but its starting to get a little uncomfortable, I've been waking up multiple times every night this week with something hurting because I just can't get comfortable.  I can fall asleep on my side but wake up on my stomach or back or wake up because my arm or hip hurts.  Its not fun.  I'm going to go buy a body/pregnancy pillow this weekend and hopefully that will help.
  • I was always an exclusive stomach sleeper. My Dr said I could sleep that way as long as I could, whatever that means. Just be careful- I was sleeping on my stomach then reached for something off the bed without thinking & put too much pressure on my stomach- and out came a little blood the next day. Baby is ok, but I went to side sleeping right after that. And actually it's not as bad as it seems. I've still been able to sleep- pure exhaustion from the pregnancy does help that though =)
