I am contemplating the diva cup

I already spent $ on mama cloth but it really isn't working out well.  My question is, I've never liked tampons.   I would always feel like I was getting poked with a sharp stick. Does that mean I'll hate the diva cup?

So are there different sizes?   Can you tell me more?

  • i love my diva cup...i will never go back.  definitely try it, and with some patience.  it takes a couple months to feel the love
  • You shouldn't really feel it if it is inserted properly. There are 2 sizes- one for people who have not had kids and the other for moms. I find them easy to use but it does take some getting used to to get them in the right spot kwim.

  • The other question...is it gross?  Like,  I can't imagine having to reach up there to get it while on my period.  I need to know all about it!

  • I had actually completely stopped using tampons by the time I tried the diva cup. I wouldn?t be afraid to try it because you don?t like tampons. Yes, you?re putting something inside? but that?s pretty much where the similarities end. The diva cup is flexible and feels like a ring, not a pokey stick. It?s also shorter. What I like is that it?s not scratchy, which is the biggest thing I hate about tampons. It?s worn lower than a tampon, so the little tail sometimes pokes out and you can feel it. If that bothers you, you can clip it off (they say so in their instructions). I have found it to be more comfortable than tampons, once I figured out where to put it. There?s kind of a sweet spot where you don?t feel it at all.

There are two different sizes. One is for women under 30 who have never had a vaginal birth. The other is for women over 30 and/or have had a vaginal birth. Since I didn?t use before I had DD, I can?t compare. But someone else told they are very similar in size.

  • Interested in this post too... is it messy?
  • It isn't particularly messy at all - I find pads to be more messy in their own way.  Mine unfortunately rides up, but since your flow is contained in the cup, it's not particularly messy, and it contains the entire reason you'd wouldn't want to go up there during your period, if you KWIM.  Yes, you'll want to wash your hands, as there are other natural fluids up there that are in your vaginal canal, but I don't find it messy.

It does take a few months to get used to, but I was way apprehensive, and I will never go back.

FYI - I'm pretty sure they recommend the larger size even if you haven't delivered vaginally but have had a child.

  • It is surprisingly NOT messy. It?s cleaner than tampons or pads, IMO. Since the cup holds everything, the area where you deal with is dry. It?s like tampons where there?s all the sepage on your vaginal walls. You don?t reach far either? seriously, an inch maybe? And it?s easy to pull it out upright, so you don?t need to worry about making a mess upon removal. I just dump in the toilet, rinse in the sink, and replace. I?m done in seconds with nothing gross on my hands.

It?s truly easy and clean. My DH actually was super against the diva cup because he thought it was gross. But after the first cycle, he was a huge fan because it?s actually very clean. No nasty, smelly garbage. No stained panties. It is seriously the best thing ever. Stop thinking, just try it! ;)

This may be true. I'm working from memory, which isn't much.

I just bought mine so have no working experience yet, but I can say that regarding sizing it is size 1 for under 30 and never delivered a child (vag or c-section) and size 2 for over 30 and/or delivered a child.
