How many people have said "I knew it"?

I'm amazed at how many people have already claimed they just knew I was pregnant when we told them the news. We're a pretty private couple...not one single person knew we were even trying. And yet...

MIL, SIL, and Grandma-IL were all jumping up and down screaming "I knew it!" when we told them. MIL even pulled a baby-carriage charm out of her pocket for my charm bracelet. I suppose I half expected them to guess, because we were at a wedding with all of them a few days after we got our BFP and I was trying to be sneaky about drinking. Also, we had to drive an hour to get together with them and DH was a little too insistent that everyone be available, I think.

Just two days ago, I told my best friend. She immediately said, "I knew it." This one stumped me, because she was away for 4 weeks and I haven't seen her since before BFP. We just got together for a dinner after work per usual at a regular place of ours, so there wasn't any sort of special planning. She said she just had a feeling. I told her we must be psychically connected. ;)

And I know people at work assume the truth and haven't said anything. It's hard to hide here, sick as I've been and all.

Re: How many people have said "I knew it"?

  • One sil knew we were before we announced based on how I had looked when I had seen her last (I was just 5 weeks).  My other sil and 2 of my friends said they had a feeling although they hadn't seen me in a while.

  • The way I got my BFP was a little funny.  DH and I were not exactly trying, and I was about to have surgery on my BBs to have a lump removed from each.  During the pre-op the morning of, they did a urine and blood test, both of which surpisingly came back positive.  At that time we were barely 3 weeks.  But we cancelled the surgery and I returned to work the next day, despte my having been scheduled to be out on medical leave.  Everyone knew I was going to have surgery and be out, so they were shocked to see me back.  I explained the doc had an emergency and since my surgery was not of any high risk (the lumps were believe to be benign, just needed to be removed for comfort sake), that he cancelled it and would reschedule later.

When I finally felt comfortable to tell people, I mentioned that THIS is the reason I didn't have my surgery, and the claimed to have "known" because it didn't make sense otherwise!  Oh well....at least they were respectful of letting me tell when I wanted to tell.

  • None!  Everyone was shocked because I have suffered from PCOS for so long.  I recently lost a lot of weight and my body is totally different now.  At my 8w3d u/s my ovaries were normal - I was like "come again?"  But everyone is so happy for us - as are we!

  • I've had a lot of people at work say they knew it....  but they also knew we were trying.  i guess i made a few comments too, but i didn't realize it!  But oh well....  I think the family was surprised, and several friends i don't see often will be!  I know I sure was!!!!!

  • I visited my parents (about 5 hours away) when I was only six weeks.  I was bloated and I commented about feeling tired and that was enough for my mom, who immediately picked up on my pregnancy with DS, to bug DH and I about due dates for the rest of the weekend.  She said she'd be astounded if I wasn't pregnant.

We're not confirming anyone's suspicions until we make it to the 2nd trimester in mid-September.  Maybe even later now that we've had some vanishing twin drama.  I just don't want to explain why I'm not pregnant to people if things don't work out.

I already look pregnant, so I won't be surprised if my mom's not the only person with an, "I knew it!"

  • Only one friend claimed to have "known"...and it was totally weird. She was one of my BFFs in high school (10 years ago), and although we were in each other's weddings 6-7 years ago, we really haven't kept in touch all that well, except for following each other's lives on facebook. Anyway, she had NO way of knowing we were TTC or anything, and when I was about 5 weeks along, she emailed me out of the blue and asked me if I was pregnant...she said she had a dream that I was, so she had to know! The funny thing is, this isn't the first time that this has happened...she's had pregnancy dreams for 4 of her other friends that also turned out to be true!!

  • I am a teacher and during our first in-service one of my teachers associates kept saying "I just can't stop looking at you!"  I told her later that day and she said she could tell something was different.

  • My sister claimed to have known because I was glowing. I've gotten the glowing comment a couple times, and just keep telling people it's my body wash because it makes me kinda sparkle...haha.

  • My grandma.  It was so weird.  I had just gotten my BFP a couple of days before and we had dinner with the family.  My mom knew and no one said anything to my grandma, the whole dinner was totally normal.  Then when my mom talked to my grandma a couple of days later she said, "do you think Lauren looked pregnant?"  I was only 4 weeks!  No way I "looked" pregnant, but somehow she knew.  She had never said anything like that before and didn't know we were TTC.

  • My friend said that last night when I told them! She said, I knew it because you haven't been drinking. She said she even offered me a glass of wine when I got there for dinner because she thought I was going to say no. So sneaky. I'm glad she didn't say anything, though until I was ready to tell. My boss did that to me last week when we were in San Diego for a work thing and we all went out for margaritas and I passed. I said something about being on medication and the next day she said, "Do you have something to tell me?" She knows about my previous m/c and is aware that we are trying again but it still bothered me. Especially since she's my boss. I just told her, "Nope nothing to tell you!" I know she knows, but whatevs. It's my news, I'll tell her when I'm good and ready.

  • One of the guys I work with - I have no idea how he "just knew" but he claims he knew I was pregnant before I announced it.  Who knows...but other than that everyone has been surprised.

When we told the ILs, DH's grandpa said, "I thought I noticed at the wedding that you had a little belly, but it was hard to tell."

I wanted to be like, "Gramps, I was 4 weeks at the wedding. So you basically just told me I had a flabby stomach pre-pregnancy." But, of course, I didn't say that. He doens't know any better, lol.

  • So, far about half have said "I knew it" and it makes no sense.  For instance, a friend of mine that lives in Canada that I see maybe twice a year.  She came for a visit and we told her within 5 minutes of seeing her and her instant response was "I knew it."  No, you didn't, you just knew we have been trying for a long time!

DH just told his work and one of his co-workers, that I haven't seen in over 4 months told him that she knew and wasn't surprised at all.  Now how in the world would she know??  Silly.

  • My mom and sis figured it out based on us having to come visit them after just seeing them and other signs. His parents were shocked. THe weird one is my gma who still doesnt know. But she keeps talking to my mom about me and how I've been on her mind alot lately and she needs to see me and spend time with me. So she arranged for us to meet this weekend and we are going to tell her then. We'll see what she says after that.

  • My sister in-law told her husband that she knew I was pregnant. Apparently she said this to him a week before we told anybody. My Grandma said she had a feeling I was pregnant too.
