Babies: 3 - 6 Months

This lady just broke my heart

One of the girls ou there just had her baby 3 weeks ago.

She just informed me that she lets her CIO and they sleep great.

She said she has no issues doing it because they did it with their now, 2 year-old (Almost 3 in a month or two.), and she is "just fine."

It just broke my heart. She's 3 weeks old. She wants to be cuddled and loved. I feel so bad, for both of those kids.

  • I can't even imagine letting LO cry at 2 weeks old!! I have a hard time doing it now bc I still feel like she is crying because she needs something

  • What?  Letting a 3 week old CIO?!?  How could you be so cold-hearted?

Does that mean that she's not feeding the baby at night?  WAY too young to go that long without eating :(

The way it sounds. She said she's gaining weight and has no issues.

DD was already over 9lbs by 3 weeks. Her little girl hasn't even hit 8lbs yet. I know babies grow different, but I would be worried not feeding her at night.

I am literally sickened, my heart is breaking for that poor baby...does this person have no common sense??

It seems this way. She just kept telling me, she was healthy and she was gaining weight. I kept saying think of how much healthier, happier and much more weight she would gain if she was eating a few times a night. I told her how I woke up with DD ever 2 hours to feed. And, if she fussed not wanting to lay back down I held her, sitting up in the glider. She just said, "to each their own"

Choosing not to feed your child is not "to each their own", it is called starving your child. At 7wks they NEED to eat every couple of hours and not feeding them is neglect.

  • I think she has it in her mind that she's doing some form of sleep training and that as long as her baby gets fed first thing when she wakes up it's ok.

  • that breaks my heart!!  someone needs to give her a swift kick in the arse!

a 3 week old needs to EAT.  I can't imagine letting a 3 week old CIO.  I hate when DS cries for a few minutes in his swing before he falls asleep.

  • My brother and SIL visited when LO was 5 weeks. I talked about how happy I was one day that LO had slept for 5 hours and how great I felt. He told me I was being too soft and that I needed to let him CIO. I thought he had just forgotten when you did that. His kids are 9 and 11. He looked at his wife and asked her and she said they started letting them CIO at 2 weeks old and that by 2 months they were sleeping through the night. My mouth must have hit the floor at letting them CIO at 2 weeks. My brother just grinned and said "let em cry!" My SIL said he was being a little dramatic. THey did not let them cry out of hunger, but if they were fed and changed, they did let them CIO to get to sleep. They said it was Baby Wise. I have not read it, so I don't know.

Funny thing is that LO is now almost 3 months and he is pretty much STTN (like 10 - 6 or 7 with just one wake up around 4 or 5) and I have not let him CIO. He's been doing that since 2 months, so he's doing the same thing their kids did because they let them CIO! Now my first son....no way. He was a terrible sleeper and did not STTN till 6 months consistently!
