1st Trimester

Why do I feel nervous about telling work?

I had an u/s at 9 weeks, everything looked good and healthy.  I planned to wait until 12-13 weeks (I have another appointment next week) before telling everyone at work.  But now something's come up, scheduling-wise, and I feel like I need to tell at least one coworker right away.

Why do I feel so nervous about this?  I felt like this last time, too, even though everyone was nothing but supportive.  Anyone else?

Re: Why do I feel nervous about telling work?

  • Me! I work for a very small organization and they are currently in the process of hiring someone to fill another maternity leave starting on Oct.

The other reason I am nervous is that I just started this job in January...

But really, I keep telling myself that they will have to understand....they hired a 26 year old just off a year-long mat. leave from the first baby....did they really expect me to put in a lot of time before thinking about #2?

I'm sure I am worrying needlessly, but nonetheless, I am worrying like you are!

  • I'm not working anymore but with DD I was SO nervous. Everyone was happy for me and so understanding, which was nice.  I still felt bad even towards the end because I ended up having GD with DD and had to leave a lot for appointments and I was one of the only girls at the desk up front so everyone had to make up for me being gone : / But you can't help it and I'm sure they will understand.

  • I'm nervous as well. Although I don't plan on telling them until I'm in 2nd tri, I'm still kinda nervous
Three angel babies...I think it's time for a change
  • I told some of my coworkers, well mostly they found out cuz of my big mouth on facebook. But i'm really afraid to tell my boss. I think he's gunna be disappointed or something.

  • My son is only 7 months old, so I am really nervous about telling them that I am pregnant again.  Especially since at lunch today they were all talking about how they don't understand when women have their babies so close together.  Ahhh!  Good luck!
  • I am nervous too. We have a new principal, so it's kind of like . . . Hi, you don't know me from Adam, but I'll be leaving in March and gone until the end of the year! See you next fall!
  • Looks like we're due the same day -- had to come clean with my boss 2 days ago for the same reason.  He was awesome - it's not often they get 6 months notice of someone being out of the office.  I immediately jumped in to my rant "don't worry... I'll have no limitations, I'll do everything I'm expected to... no need to adjust, I'll help train whomever is covering me..." (yada, yada).  He basically waived me off saying he expected nothing less and that I should maintain the perspective that what's growing inside me is more important than any project we'll ever do at work.

  • I was very nervous.  I just blurted it out early in the morning one day - I didn't plan when I would tell because I knew I would chicken out.  I just did it when I had enough nerve.  It's a big deal and I think it's normal to be nervous.  But l'm sure everyone will be happy for you!

  • I told my administrative assistant the day after I found out so that she could help me "cover up".  we had an incident at work that got me very upset so I went and told my old boss (he was "demoted" due to organizational changes)  and he was nice and supportive, but reminded me that I should probably find a job with less stress and less hours (which I don't want to do).  You have to do what feels right but work finding out should be the priority.  It's just a job, right...make sure you tell the people who matter first.  If you want to tell one person, they should understand that you want to keep it low profile until you get further along.
  • I am very nervous as well.  I'm a pediatrician at an OB & Peds combined clinic that seems to be fairly friendly.  But there are only 3 pediatricians including myself so when I leave for maternity leave the call responsibilites will fall on 2 people.  I've been working there for a year...initially I wanted to wait but I decided I had to do what was best for me first and worry about my job later since I had to hold off through schooling and training.  I plan to wait until 2nd trimester but I don't know if I should tell earlier do to scheduling & such.
