STTN is now over???!!!

My girls have been sleeping from 10 pm to 7 am (occasionally 6:30 or 7:30) for about two weeks.

All of a sudden this week they started waking at 2, or 4, or 5:30.  Rocking back to sleep doesn't work- I tried and she woke up an hour later.  They're waking up hungry.

Anything I can do?  I'm breastfeeding and supplementing with formula.  Every night at the last feeding they get 2.5 oz of formula in addition to nursing.  One night I even added 2 oz of pumped breastmilk to the bottle and one of they still woke up at 3:30!

Also a couple of times I would just feed one of the girls and not wake the other in hopes that just one of them was having a hard time.  But then the other would wake an hour or so later and I'd regret not waking and feeding together like I used to do.

Last night they were asleep by 10, then one woke up at 4:30 so I nursed them both then put them back to sleep.  It was just so nice to get a full night's sleep that I don't want to go back!

  • There usually is a big growth spurt again at about 3 months old. This might be causing your problems? It will hopefully pass within a week or so. Good luck, our girls did the same thing and it passed within a week to ten days.

  • Agreed with pp, growth spurt. Then it will be cutting molars...then it will be falling out of their toddler bed. Does it ever end? ;)

  • Ok.  I knew about the three month growth spurt, but didn't think about it affecting their sleep at night....that was foolish.

     Thanks Ladies!

  • Likely a growth spurt.

Just keep this in mind.  It will happen with teething, colds, basically any little disruption in their regular routine.  Teething is horrible on my boys' sleep.

We didn't start truly STTN with both of them until almost 14 months.  It was a LONG first year!

  • I love that your twins are just a few days ahead of mine - you are asking all the questions I have been wondering! (I also replied to your post about drooling). I am expecting the shoe to drop as well since our boys are awesome sleepers, 7:30 pm - 6:30 am. They were getting up once around 3:30 to eat, but have stopped doing that lately and sleep straight through. Seriously, it's too good to be true. I know the growth spurt is coming. I also read that they sleep better through the night if they consume their calories early enough and evenly enough throughout the day. We used to full them up on their last bottle to get them through the night but they always woke up. Now we've added an ounce to each of their bottles during the day and all of them are equal, even the last one. Now that I read that, duh, was THAT the growth spurt?  That would be great if it was!!
