fussy at the breast-- low supply?

My 4 week old lo is suddenly very fussy at the breast and can hardly sit still.  A few times now he'll get extremely fussy, pull off, and then start to cry as if he's super frustrated.   I'll massage my breast and nothing is coming out.  If I switch breasts same thing happens after a few minutes.  For the first few minutes I can tell a lot of milk is coming out, but then it seems to suddenly stop.  This doesn't happen at every feeding, but overall he seems less content while eating. 

Do you think there is something wrong with my supply?  Can you offer any advice?

    This happened for us around a month as well.. I think it might be a growth spurt.

    I agree with AmyG. Just keep on nursing and do it often. This will trigger your body to make more milk, if that's what baby needs.

    I am having this exact problem!  Except it seems to be at every feeding now.  I am also getting WAY less when I pump (just a few drops compared to 2 oz before).  She will latch on and let down occurs, she drinks for maybe 2 minutes, the milk stops flowing and she starts freaking out.  She never seems satisfied and I can hardly express anything, maybe a few drops.

    My first thought was growth spurt too but it's been going on 3 days now and I am worried so I am calling a LC.

    Your milk supply probably does not "stop" but slow down and he gets fussy with the slower flow. You can try compressions while nursing to help.  With DD she was fussier in between weeks 4-7 and then it settled down a bit. If it's a growth spurt keep nursing and don't give in to supplementing.

    hi! it's fine, just keep switching him back & forth. You don't have a low supply. Babies are just fussy during growth spurts
