Pre-School and Daycare

Moms of girls.

(Yikes, I feel like an AW today.  This is the last post, I promise.  My class starts in 20 minutes.)

Spinning off from brightning's post about Barbies the other day.  The Artful Parent blog posted a post today that I thought might interest some people:

Empowering Our Daughters Through Non-Traditional Princess Books

Re: Moms of girls.

  • When I used to teach Pre-K, I would read stories to my students right before nap time.  When the story was about a princess and her prince I would read the whole story as it was in the book.  Afterwards, I would ask the kids "What would have happened if Cinderella hadn't married the prince and lived happily ever after?"  The responses were awesome!  Anywhere from "went to law school" to "opened a restaurant" to "kicked out her evil stepmom and mean stepsisters and lived happily ever after...alone".  Still makes my day every time I think of it!
