Round Ligament Pain

Hi Ladies,

I was wondering if any of you can help me with this.  Since last week I've had pretty bad pain/achiness in my lower abdomen and lower back.  The pain almost feels like menstrual cramps.  It got a lot worse on Friday so i went to my doctor and he told me it was round ligament pain and not to worry.
Last night I woke up with severe pain again and couldn't sleep.  I don't want to keep worrying but I can't help it.  I have another appointment on Friday with my doctor but wonder if I should wait that long.

Has anyone else had this sort of pain/discomfort?

Thank you for your help!

Re: Round Ligament Pain

  • It very well could be round ligament pain but I would call your dr and explain to him/her that the pain has gotten worse.  Maybe they could push up your appointment.  I could be wrong, but I didn't think round ligament pain was supposed to last for so long.

  • RLP usually doesn't bother my back - just my lower abdomen and one side at a time.  I usually get back pain when I am cramping.

I would try to up your water intake and lay down as much as possible.  If it doesn't go away after you try that stuff I would call the doc.

  • i agree with adam increase your water intake. I still have the RLP and the other night had it so bad I couldnt sleep as well. My OB told me that it can go to your lower back because i had that as well. But call your doc if your not sure... thats what they are there for. GL
  • My RLP has never been that bad - only lasts for a few seconds.....I would def call them back and let them know that it's getting worse....
  • I have definitely had the RLP but not that badly. I have had a lot of lower back pain which I assume is par for the course with being PG. I'm going to try and see a chiro about the back pain but as for the RLP if yours is that painful and lasts that long, I would definitely go back to your doc just to be safe. Good luck!

  • I had the RLP that woke me up out of a dead sleep as well, it is miserable.  Mine only lasted for a couple hours a night and only hit me about 2 or 3 nights.  Once the RLP went away, I had a lower back ache off and on for a few days.  When I discussed this with my doctor she said that it was nothing to worry about as long as a it was only a couple hours at a time and that it would stop within a couple weeks of starting.  For me warm baths and change positions in bed ( like elevating my legs or sleeping on my side with a pillow between my knees) really helped.

     Best of Luck!
