1st appt curiosity

How soon do most of you have your first appointment with your doctor? Mine won't be for another 5 weeks and I'm currently 5 weeks along.  I've read that it varies from 5-6 weeks to 8-10 weeks, but some people have got me worried when I tell them it's still a month away and they have a look of shock/surprise on their face!  Just want to make sure 10 weeks is normal! I really like my doctor and don't want to think of this as a flaw....

Re: 1st appt curiosity

  • 10 weeks sounds normal to me! I am about 4 weeks and I go in 2 weeks, but I don't know exactly how far along I really am and have IF so they just want to check early before they turn me over to the OB.

  • With DD my first appointment was at 9 weeks, with our m/c I was 8 weeks, and with this one I'll be close to 9 again. There aren't a whole lot of midwives around here so they are booked like crazy, so it takes a while to get in.

  • My ob/gyn practice does the first appt at 10 weeks.  I'm actually going at the start of 11 due to Dh's work schedule.
  • 10 weeks is in the normal range for 1st appts.  My OB schedules them around 8 weeks. My 1st appt is at 8w3d.

  • My first appointment is 8/30/10.

According to my LMP (7/8/10) I will be 7 weeks 4days.

But I charted so I think I will really be more like 6 weeks and few days.

I thought it seemed early... but I was happy to get in!

  • My first appointment is at 9 weeks.  My ob/gyn office said that if a woman has had two or more m/c's, then they have them in sooner, but otherwise they do first appointments at 8-10 weeks.  I was concerned also before I read that it's the norm.
  • mine is on sept. 3rd. I believe i will be at the end of 10 weeks going onto 11 weeks. I charted so im pretty right on the money on my end. It would of been a week sooner but i can only book appointments on thurs or friday because i have those days off.
  • I was surprised at first that I had to wait so long, too, but it seems like the norm. My first appointment will be at 9 weeks.

  • I will have my first appointment next Tuesday at just short of 7 weeks. This appointment is really to get a due date and to go over the next 9 months. I won't have any tests or anything until around week 10.

I sure can't wait to see the ultrasound next week though!!!

  • My Dr.'s office schedules them at 9-10 weeks for a normal pregnancy.  I had a m/c with my first pg so this time they're seeing me at 7 weeks.

  • MY OB's policy is to get you in right away so you can get information on caring for yourself through the first tri and also so they can date the pregnancy (via u/s).  My first visit is tomorrow (it would have been earlier this week but I'm switching offices and was picky about an appt time because of my childcare needs).  I think I would die if I had to wait until 10 weeks, but like PPs said, it isn't all that unusual.
