Donating Cord Blood

I was reading a post about whether or not people were going to do cord blood banking.  Someone mentioned donating the cord blood.

DH and I probably will not bank the baby's cord blood because it's pretty expensive, so after hearing that you could donate it I started doing a little research.

Here's a great site

The site tells you about donating and helps you find out if there's a hospital in your area where you can donate.  Unfortunately, the hospital that I will be delivering at does not do the collection for donation.  But I thought I would pass along the info for anyone else who might want to donate their baby's cord blood.

    I had checked into this also and unfortunately my hospital does not do the donation collection either.

    We have the option to donate the cord blood, but we have to pay nearly $200 to do so!

    Thanks for sharing! I was really interested in donating after I read of that option in one of my pregnancy books.  It's really too bad my hospital, and none anywhere near me, is listed.

    My hospital doesn't do it either which stinks because after struggling with infertility for so long, I really wanted to help out (not related but I still wanted to do it).

    I will hopefully be doing this.  I just wanted to mention that people should check with their hospitals directly.  My hospital is not listed on any of these websites, but they will do collection and shipping.
