TTC After a Loss

WWYD: ? about starting to try after m/c

Hi. I m/c almost 2 weeks ago at about 6 weeks along. It was a natural m/c and I am feeling better with each day. I was very sad that we lost the pregnancy, but we had been trying for a year and a half and I am still rather excited that we were able to get pregnant on our own, even though it didn't have the ending we were hoping for.

So, anyhow, this am I had EWCM. I am on day 13 of this "cycle" (if you call it that, I started charting with the first day of my m/c). My dr. said to wait 3 weeks before we start trying again, but I rarely get EWCM and feel like if I am going to ovulate in the next few days I really want to start trying again. So, WWYD? My dr. didn't say anything about why we should wait 3 weeks and I didn't think to ask. But, if there is a physical reason to wait I would understand, if it is just an emotional time frame (to allow for healing, etc.), then I feel ready.

Re: WWYD: ? about starting to try after m/c

  • So sorry about your loss.  Just to be clear, did your doctor say 3 weeks until you could have sex or 3 weeks until you could TTC?  I had a D&C so it may be a different rationale, but I was not allowed to put anything up there for 3 weeks due to fear of infection.  I'm not sure if there is the same risk of infection with a natural m/c, though, so you might want to ask your doctor.  Many doctors also don't recommend getting pregnant until you've had at least one period after the D&C, but there seem to be mixed opinions on this.  I think the main reason for that is it can be hard to date the subsequent pregnancy.

  • Good point, I didn't ask specifically about sex, only about when we could start trying again. I know I probably shouldn't rush things. I was just a little shocked to have the EWCM this morning. I expected for it to take awhile for things to get back on track, and maybe the CM doesn't mean anything anyway. Thanks for your input.

  • If it were me, I'd put a call into my doctor and ask them for the reasons why. Better to have a clear understanding.

    Good luck to you!

  • I would follow your doctor's orders. Risk of infection, letting your body heal, giving your uterus time to get it's lining back and baby holding in shape....are several reason.

  • 1 regular period is the usual recommendation after an early miscarriage. Your uterus will need time to rebuild the lining.

  • I have the exact same question! I have read stories about conceiving right away and they sound promising but its still a little scary. I, too, was around 6 weeks. If you call your Dr. for clarification, please share! Thank you :-)

  • I decided to wait and not call the doctor. We only had one more week and It's turning out that I have not ovulated yet anyway, so looks like I didn't miss anything. Hoping that I ovulate soon b/c I'd rather not have this be a long cycle. We shall see.
