NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I can't believe what just happened to me. I was unpacking my pump stuff in the lactation room at work when I noticed my book was damp. Upon furthur inspection I realized that one of my cats had peed INSIDE MY PUMP! MY CAT PEED INSIDE MY PUMP. I have a PISA shoulder bag and I left it unzipped on the floor (stupid, stupid, stupid, I know my cats pee on things occassionally.... stupid, stupid, stupid). It got on everything, If got on the tubing and the DC adapter in the pump compartment. Luckily it still works and I pumped anyways but dumped it because the tubing had pee on it. I'm off to go clean it as well as I can then run over to special addition to get a new hands free bra and home to pick up some tubing and a change of clothes (yeah I feel like I'm covered in residual cat pee). I just can't believe this. I am soooo mad at the cats, I'll probably post later for some tips/advice on the cats. The cats also peed on Megan's bean bag chair last night and ruined it and then pooped on her carpet this morning. Yeah the litter box was on the gross side so it was our fault. I know but I'm still mad. Ok, I just needed to vent that, thanks.

Oh man, I'm sorry. That sucks. One of ours pees on things if the litterbox is not clean enough for her majesty. :( we found out at 3 am one night she had peed on crib sheets on the bottom shelf of the changing table...bc we needed to change said sheets. Luckily, we had a spare sheet in the dryer already. I feel your frustration. Eta we also took her to the vet and determined it was behavioral. We try to give her private space away from everyone else and extra attention, too. She is just that picky about the litterbox.

  • That really sucks!

We are going through this as well.  We started tending to the litter box every or every other day.  We changed from top entry side entry boxes, and back to scoopable litter.  We started being extra diligent about keeping LO's door closed (he peed in her crib while we were giving her a bath one night).  I also started being diligent about leaving bags, towels, clothes, etc on the floor.

I also tried to spend some time, even 10 min, each night giving them attention.

So far, changing our litterbox habits and the attention have really helped.

I got one of those plug-in stress things and water drops, but haven't used them yet.

Oh yeah, once we knew which one was peeing everywhere, I took him to the vet to verify there wasn't something medically wrong.

In our case, the issue is all behavioral, our behavior...

  • What on earth did you do to piss off those cats??   (Joke.  I know it's probably not funny at the moment.)

    So sorry this happened.  Boo.

hehe, I think having two kids!

I'm 90% sure it's behavioral.  It never used to be like this, but ever since Ryan was born it's been happening.  I'm pretty sure I know which one it is but I could be wrong.  I'll probably take them both in anyways so make sure nothing is wrong.

I'm on hold with Medela now, Special Addition didn't know what to tell me... I was able to pull the mechanicals out, but I want to know if I can wash it and what I can use.  Maybe I can just throw out the bag and strap it down to something else (to keep it stable) and throw that in a regular bag.  Sigh...
oh and my cube smells like cat pee now, fabulous!

  • Self cleaning litter box.  Best $100 ever.  It has a sensor that cleans the box 10 minutes after the cat gets out (resets if the cat gets in again).  You just have to empty the collection box and if you put a grocery bag in there you just pull it out, tie the handles and toss it in the garbage.  Its kind of noisy when cleaning but that only takes a few seconds.

Sorry about your pump!  I always carried my pump in a regular bag and set the motor on a table and never had any problems.

  • Medela was so not helpful.  I've taken the motor out of the bag, which I'm not supposed to do (Emma at Medela must have repeated this 100 times), but I wanted to get it out of their, it was damp with cat pee all around where the motor was.  I'm thinking I'm just going to try pumping with the motor outside the bag, Medela said this is a huge no no since they motor housing is not sealed.  But I can cover it in something and I'm fairly confident it will hold out another 2 months...

I'm about to head out of here and go home to change and get the supplies I need. I don't think I can handle the cat pee smell any longer.

This was the worst $100 we ever spent.  We bought one a few years ago to see if it would help with the problems.  The rake was constantly cakes with pee litter, the receptacles filled up really fast, and I still had to take the think apart quite often to clean it all out. Maybe we just didn't use hard enough clumping litter?

We use Fresh Step.  I remember I had to try a couple of different ones.  Occaisionlly something gets caught on the rake but its usually poop instead of pee and ours came with a scooper that is tabbed on the end to make it easy to clean anything off the rake.  I'd say our cat fills up the receptacle about every 5 days, which to me is still better than scooping daily or every other day.  The receptacles are $$ but if you line it with a grocery bag it lasts a long time because it doesn't get dirty.  They get really mixed reviews online but its been great for us, when the last one broke we ordered another right away.

  • ewww! i'm sorry. what a mess! i hope your pump is recoverable!!

  • That totally sucks! So sorry you have to deal with that!

Like pp said, I would double check with the vet to make sure it isn't medical (since there were other bathroom incidents- you want to make sure the cat isn't associating the box with pain) but the Feliway Diffusers also helped us when it was a behavioral issue.

    Don't you love pets?!?
