I was never told DS's blood type. I asked about it once and they told me that they usually didn't test for that. It just seems like an important thing to know.
I know that it has to be O (because DH and I are both O+) but I don't know if he is + or -. Most likely positive because they tell you if you are RH- right?
When DD was readmitted to the hospital at 4 days (for jaundice) they were able to retrieve her cord blood (we had donated it) and type it... she is O+ just like DH and I
yes, it was a big deal in my case because DH and I really opposites i'm O-and DH is A+
and played a huge factor in DDs jaundice since her and I had different blood types (she has A+) she had whats called A B O Neg which makes it harder for her to break down blood cells, which is why she had jaundice so bad....

We have no idea. We asked the pedi about it but she said she was never tested at the hospital.
I keep hearing this! why is it not a big deal? why are they not testing for it...I mean really? at my L&D they made a big deal out of it? why does no one else?

That's what I thought. It seems like something that I should know as his parent. I don't know why they acted like it was no big thing at the hospital.
DH and DD have the same blood type. For some reason she and I have different a blood type. They told me this in the hospital not long after she was born. Since I was BFing there was a chance that the antibodies in my blood could attack hers since we have different blood types - thank goodness that didn't happen, but I was a nervous wreck after they told me that.
DD ended up being the same as me, O neg and so I didn't need another Rhogam shot after she was born (I had two during pregnancy due to bleeding). DH is A+.

I thought that even if you and your spouse were both +, you can still carry a - gene.
And even if you are A you can carry the O gene so your kid could actually be O-. The only way to know for sure is to have your child tested. My LO was because I have RH negative blood and that has complications in some cases with a second pregnancy.
OK, it has been too long since I last studied biology. LOL

Probably depends on the hospital, but the lab where I worked tested cord blood on every baby within hours of birth (type and cross) along with a heel stick for glucose and bilirubin, and a blood count. I just assumed they did it all on O but never told us the results. I'll have to ask.
The kids had their blood type on their hospital braclets and it was in their discharge paperwork. DD is the same as DH, A+ and DS is the same as mine, A-. I know they had to check since I have a - RH factor and it determined if I needed the Rhogam shot after delivery.

We were never told - the hospital I delivered at doesn't type blood as part of routine testing. I've always been curious though, since DH doesn't know his either. I think that's going on my questions list for DS's 18 month appointment.
I teach at an elementary school and the science club teacher typed the student's blood last year as one of her experiements. I thought about asking her to type DS but forgot about it after a couple of days. Maybe this year...
