At what point would you be concerned? DD cooed at about 3 months, and she did it all the time for a few weeks, and recently she's figured out how to blow raspberries, but she doesn't really coo much at all any more, and she has not made any consonant sounds.
Norah is pretty much on track for all her developmental milestones otherwise, but she doesn't seem too interested in speech. Anyone else in this boat?
Re: Almost 8 months, no babbling?
Has your pedi asked about language development? I would be curious to hear what s/he thinks.
I might be a little concerned, but I tend to be concerned about everything (like my son babbles all the time but doesn't blow raspberries). I might try teaching her a few basic sounds and see if she picks them up. I think you could start with "mamama" because that is pretty simple -- it doesn't require special lip or tongue movement.
ETA: Does she seem like she can hear everything? Does she respond to loud noises or when you make silly sounds? Does she laugh?
The pedi didn't ask at her six month appointment and I don't go back until 9 months.
I do try to "teach" her sounds, but she doesn't really imitate me. She turns her head at loud noises and smiles when you say her name. She also smiles when I make silly sounds. She does laugh. I don't think that her hearing is an issue. It's like she just isn't interested in talking, if that makes sense.
If she is laughing squealing & on track with her other milestone then I wouldn't worry. Definitely bring it up to your pedi at 9 month visit.
She may just be working on other skills right now! Keep working with her on saying momma, dadda. If you are worried just call the pedi & he can tell you if it's cause for concern!
My Lo is 7.5 months and is not "babbling". She does make lots of noises though, blows rasberries, etc. but no bababababa or dadadadada type thing.
I'm not concerned about it yet, but you could def. talk to your pedi at your next appt.
