Baby Names

Name Assistance for Girl & Boy - please

Hi, our baby number 2 is due in 11 weeks.  We already have a son named Vincent Anthony.  We have decided to wait to find out the sex of the baby for a big surprise the only drawback is the pressure to find a name for both sexes.

For a girl we have the name Giovanna Elle or Gianna Reese, nickname Gia.  We definately like the names Giovanna or Gianna so one or the other but middle names are wide open.

For a boy, we are partial to Italian names but cannot find any we really like.  We thought about Luca Gabriel or Sterling although Sterling is not Italian.  We love the name Domenick but my husband's sister just name her baby Domenick so that is out :(

 Any suggestions are appreciated. :)

  • It's kinda weird that before I even read the names you were thinking of I thought of Gianna and Lucas based on your sons name already!

Something just told me you would like those names.

They are NMS and I see Gianna SO much now.

I do not like Sterling at all.

But I'd like to add Silas as a suggestion.....

  • From the names you've suggested I would do Gianna Elle. I'm not a fan of Reese boy or girl.

  • Totally love Gianna Reese and Luca Gabe.  Luca has just enough originality but isn't too out there, in my opinion.  And that seems perfect!  I also like Sterling, but wonder if you would be disappointed if you didn't go with something Italian.  My DH's vote is for Luca as well, he's peeking over my shoulder. :)  Good luck!!
  • I like your girl names. I also really like Luca Gabriel. I don't like Sterling at all. It seems pretentious to me.

Other Italian names I like for a boy: Antonio, Leonardo, Rocco, Lorenzo, Marco

  • i think i prefer giovanna over gianna, although they're both lovely. not crazy about your middle names, though... do you have any family names you can draw from?

i like luca, but you may be setting him up for a bit of schoolyard teasing. how about francesco, lucio, angelo or leonardo?

  • IMO Gianna has gone from being a traditional italian name to something parents name their hold in an attempt to be "exotic" and "cultural", Giovanna is not far behind and Isabella went ages ago. LOVE Luca Gabriel though :)

I am curious why you think Luca will set him up for teasing?  Not trying to be snarky, I am just sitting here thinking off all possibilities for teasing and can't think of any.

I love your girl name choices, they are beautiful. I really like Giovanna and the NN is so cute too.

Some boy suggestion, althought I like Luca, are:

Cardenza, Delfino, Olando, Vito, Roano....I got those from the Italian Section of my baby names book.

FTR, i love the name luca.

the negative reactions i've heard have mostly come from this board, and the two that i can remember are: 1. it sounds like a girl's name, and 2. do you live on the second floor?

  • I like Gianna.
What about Leo for a boy?
fraternal twin boys born january 2009
  • Love Gianna and Giovanna....but not with the 2 middle names you picked. Something sooooo Italian does not go with something so non italian imo.

    Gianna Lucia

    Gianna Nadia

    Gianna Marie

I love Luca as well, but again the middle names are killing it.

    Paulo

    Marco

    Matteo

    Giovanni

    Gianni

    Stefano

    Luigi

    Pietro

    Gianluca

  • If you really like Giovanna, why not decide on that name and if its a boy you can go with Giovanni?

There was a post yesterday about Italian names too..check there for some more suggestions.

  • Just another suggestion, but what about Giada for a girl (i.e. Giada De Laurentiis).

My sister's husband is italian (his name is Rocco) & they named their DS Nicco.

    I also like Luca.
