My doctor wants to induce me at 39 weeks if I haven't went into labor yet. Has anyone's doctor also suggested this? I've consistently measured large & both me & my husband were 9lb+ babies. I don't have GD & everything else looks great. Any others out there???

Re: Doctor talking about inducing at 39 wks
Why? Because they think baby is large...this makes no sense at all.
I wouldn't be induced until I was at least 41 weeks, unless it was medically necessary.
Are you petite? Is the doctor worried about you being able to deliver a large baby?
omg your daughter is adorable!! And I love the name Eden... that was on my list but DH vetoed it- boo
Considering I'm already 39 weeks I'd take her up on it if I were you! Then again I'm in a great deal of pain due to severe swelling. My blood pressure is slowly rising and I've been borderline pre-e for the past few weeks. My due date is Monday and my Doctor will induce sometime between Monday and Wednesday if nature doesn't kick in soon.
I would think it really is a wait and see kind of thing. I'm not against inducing though. I know some women really want to wait it out and have the most natural birth possible. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Unless I was very very ready (eg: effaced, dilated a little, baby very low, etc) I would avoid an induction at 39 weeks. I have had soooo many friends go in for unfavorable inductions and end up with LONG drawn out labors that end in a c-section.
In the vast majority of cases your baby is built to fit your body. And in the vast majority of cases, the baby will make his or her appearance when they are ready.
I wouldn't agree to a pre-due date induction unless there was a special circumstance. And a guess for "big baby" wouldn't be good enough. (FWIW, when I was 34 weeks pregnant I was told on a biophysical ultrasound that my DD was 6.5 pounds. 10 days later she was born due to pPROM. 5 pounds 1 ounce. The growth u/s was WAAAAY off).
Thank you so much!
I was induced at 40 weeks with my last child and labored for 16 and half hours until I delivered. I was not dialated, effaced or at a negative station when I was admitted. She was my third child and this was my longest labor. Also, she was a VBAC who weighed 8 lbs. 8 ozs.
With LO I have been offered an induction at 39 weeks but after the last time unless I have started dialiating, effacing, etc. I am just going to sit tight until until my doctor says that time is up.
My doc mentioned the same thing to me. They said since I am measuring large, they probably will want to induce me between 39 and 40 weeks. My 34 week u/s had the baby measuring at 5.5 lbs which is not off the charts by any stretch of the imagination and I only take those measurements with a grain of salt anyway.
I told them "No thanks". If there's no distress for me or the baby, then there's no reason to. It'll probably cause distress to be induced for no reason rather than let things go naturally.
your daughter is absolutly adorable!!!!
all of this. i've already told my doctor that unless there is a medical reason (high BP, pre-e, etc) that i want him to let me go 2 weeks past my DD. he completely agreed.
This. Inductions wind up having a higher risk of c-sections, just because they pump your body up with drugs to make you think you are going into labor doesnt mean that all the hormones in your brain are going to kick in too. I would personally take the chance on a big baby, since if something happens during delivery, they will do a c-section anyway, and there are greater chances of not needing it if you allow your body to go into labor naturally. On top of that, the estimated due date is just that, an estimate, which means that your baby could be really full term anytime two weeks before that to two weeks after. If your baby comes out before he/she is completely developed, it will be at higher risks for lung issues, including asthma and allergies, to say the least.
Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with inducing, especially for medical reasons, but you should be aware of all the risks involved before you make a decision based on an ultrasound weight that can be off by a couple of pounds.

Your daughter is BEAUTIFUL...Love the photo I want a little girl
 I want a little girl
My doctor did mention that the earliest he would induce is 39 weeks. This was based on my petite size and a tailbone injury that hadn't healed when I got pregnant. I expressed concern with the tailbone issue because I have two friends that split their tailbones in delivery. He said if the baby gets too large that I run the risk of re-inury to the tailbone in labor. Basically, if I can continue to cope with the pain I am in and want to pursue a natural delivery I can but the option of an induction is available next week.
Our crazy, wonderful life
I'm being induced Monday I'll be 39 weeks 1 day. NO it is not due to medical reasons. I'm just tired of being pregnant and I'm very uncomfortable. I'm 2cm and 100% and very soft. He said I was VERY inducable.
I don't know, I'd consider it. But that's just me and I was induced with both of mine. I was induced with DD electively and even though I was considered unfavorable (fingertip dilated, not an ounce of effacement, no contractions, not even BH, etc), I still had a vaginal delivery and it was fine. I did have a 3rd degree tear, but that wasn't related to the induction. So with DS, my doctor saw that he was approaching the same size as DD (7.13) and wanted to get him out so that I didn't risk tearing worse, since those were the odds. With him, I was induced 10 days early and he was 7.15 and I only had a 2nd degree tear and it was just through scar tissue. So I was REALLY glad that she was proactive with induction.
I am fully expecting to be induced this time around as well, due to the same reasons. And yes, a big baby CAN be a good enough reason to be induced - if you've had a bad tear before or the doctor anticipates a bad tear/episiotomy if the baby gets any bigger, then its a good enough reason. Trust me - I have to have reconstructive surgery when I'm done having kids because of the damage done during my first tear (21 stitches in three separate layers and I now suffer fecal incontinence.) I would take an induction to prevent THAT from getting worse ANY DAY.
Not sure that I would consider an induction unless it was medically necessary and I was favorable. With that being said, I was induced at 39 weeks with DS #1 and with DS #2. With DS #1, I was in a tremendous amount of pain due to brachial plexitis (swelling of my shoulder joints), pinched nerves in each shoulder and I was favorable for induction (4cm dilated and effaced). I was also regularly contracting on my own when I went in. My OB said that I should go home and progress on my own, but I begged her to keep me. She said that if she did and my contractions stopped, that I would essentially get induced .... which I did. And I am very happy that I made that decision. DS #1 was 9.1lbs and I barely pushed him out. He had severe shoulder distocia and I had nurses on top of me pushing on my stomach to get him out. It was very scary at the time.
With DS #2, I was favorable for induction and was induced at 39 weeks as well. Labor was great and my delivery was very smooth. DS #2 was a bit smaller and didn't have a problem coming out.
With #3, I will probably be induced around 39 weeks, as long as I am favorable. If I am not favorable and they are just worried about a bigger baby, I will not get induced.
Everyone is different and you just need to make the best decision for yourself and your baby. Good luck!
I was induced with DS due to Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (high blood pressure). It was a very smooth, problem-free induction but I wouldn't be induced just to be induced.
Size of baby is not good enough because their measurements can be so off. All during my pregnancy w/DS, I was told he was very large. Five days before he was born, they said he was nine lbs. He came out BARELY eight lbs. I don't trust growth u/s anymore.
