Natural Birth

To HypnoBaby or not to HypnoBaby? (poll)

It seems that everyone LOVES HypnoBabies!  I'm starting to feel like I need to jump on this caravan!

I've taken a birthing class (6 weeks) that combined Mindfullness, HypnoBirthing and Bradley methods.  It was fantastic!  I listen to the scripts and DH and I do yoga and meditation every night, but I don't "fall to sleep" to the scripts like it seems a lot of HypnoBabies moms do.

I've read all of Ina May's books, Birthing from Within, Natural Birth the Bradley Way, natural birth stories, etc...

I feel like I'm pretty prepared, but it just seems that HypnoBabies gets such rave reviews that I feel like I may be missing out on some relaxation techniques that could make all the difference!  However, I'm not sure if I still have enough time to prepare using the HypnoBabies method...

Do you think that I should get it?

  • I don't have experience with it but I say go for it if you want to.  Now, I'm not sure that this huge mesh of different methods is going to end up hurting you or helping you so keep that in mind.  Only you know what you think will work for you though.  Personally, I don't think it could hurt to have some different strategies on hand.  I might give HypnoBabies a shot this time around, too, since I've heard great things.

  • I would say that it is totally worth doing. I had an awsome natural labor at home using hypnobabies!  You still have time but I would order it asap because you want to make sure you get through all 5 week lessons (what if you go into labor a week or two early?).
  • it is my understanding that you are too far along to get the hypnobabies (could be wrong).  When I ordered mine, the lady was very clear that you had to have enough time to use the product.

I am using HB, and I do fall asleep to them, but that is mostly because I do them at night before I go to sleep. and I have a toddler.  so I'm already exhausted! :)

Sounds like you have done quite a bit to prepare.  I say just keep doing what you are doing.  The program is fairly expensive and I don't think you'll get much out of it with only 8 weeks +/- left to go.

  • I would just keep practising it.

I started having surges early this morning, and the only break I've had from them today was the 40 minutes of listening to my Hypnobirthing CD - I literally didn't feel even one surge while I was listening, and then as soon as I woke up out of the relaxed state, I felt them all again.

I'll be playing it over and over and doing the scripts! So far it has been working!

  • I would say that it depends on the type of person you are. For me hypnobirthing is right because I'm an individual who stresses herself out over stupid things and I feel like the outside intervention of the prompts can help me return to a peaceful place where I can take on anything and not feel overwhelmed. So if you feel like this method may be right for you then I say go to try to learn it and implement it. If you want to do it because it is getting rave reviews but something seems better, then just forget about it, the time could be spent better elsewhere.

  • I am doing hypnobabies, and I love it!  And to those who say you don't have time...you do!  Yes there is a plan, and you are only supposed to cover a certain amount of information in one week, but I am too impatient!  There are only 2 tracks to listen to per week (they just tell you to listen to them two nights each) and a really small amount of reading.  I finished week one in 2 days.  I want to make sure I cover everything in case I go into labor early, and then I will review every night until my baby comes.  I'm sure people will say I'm rushing it and not getting the full effect, but everyone is different, and this is what works for me.

It sounds like you are very prepared, but if you don't mind shelling out the extra $150, I say definitely do it!  What can it hurt?  It is definitely making me confident and excited about giving birth.  Good luck!
