Pregnant after a Loss

Should I call?? (post and run)

Sorry in advance for the post and run, but I need to post this and then do something so I'll be back in about a 1/2 hour or so to check responses...  Anyhoo!

So, I'm 31 1/2wks and I've been having lots of contractions lately.  Presumably BH.  They are more annoying/painful than they were in my prev. pg. but I'm chalking that up to it being a 2nd (term) pg and that that's just my body doing what it does naturally getting ready for the babe to come.  There is no regularity to them.  Very random - but I'd say I'm having upwards of 20 ctrx per day.

Today, my pubic bone - right in the center - hurts like a mofo.  Like it hurts to walk.  I'm guessing this is just all that lovely relaxin separating the *** out of my pelvis and that's probably all it is.

I have my 32wk appt next Thursday.  I was planning on just waiting until then to talk to my doc about it and maybe have him do a quick check to make sure I'm not dilated or anything.  Since there is no organization to the ctrx would you bother calling?

Thanks!!

  • I could have written this post...and for me it all started around 32 weeks.  I really couldn't believe how much worse the BH and cramping and pain in my hips/pubic bone have been this time.  My belly has also been rock hard for hours on end.

So far my OB hasn't been concerned and gave me the every pregnancy is different and 2nd (term) pregnancies can often take more of a toll on our bodies speech...

I have an appt. in an hour and plan to chat with her more about it though.  I have days where the ctx/BH are so bad I can barely get off the couch.

  • I would call and just let him know. My philosophy is it is better safe than sorry and if it is something that you will worry about then better to at least get a reassuring "nope it is normal" than to wonder.

  • 20 a day sounds a bit much.

  • Personally, I'd call. I'm sure it's fine.  But I always think it's better to be safe than sorry.  Are you drinking enough water?

Definitely drinking enough. I drink a minimum of 3quarts a day - usually more.

I've mentioned the ctx before at other appts and they've not been concerned, especially since I had a lot with my prev. pg. It's just this time they HURT!

  • I don't think that it ever hurts to call.  It sounds like you will probably be just fine, but I always like the peace of mind.

  • I am feeling the exact same thing and I'm only 27 1/2 weeks. My OB already told me that since it was my 2nd (term) pregnancy, to expect earlier and more intense BH and lots more pressure. Though calling the doc has crossed my mind many times, her speech to me on this a few months ago keeps popping in my head.

Also, I've googled BH many times and see that they can indeed be painful. Most places tell you that they aren't painful, just a tightening but mine can and have been painful. Really, unless they're regular, I'd just wait till your appt.

This is what my gut tells me. If they were at all timeable or in anyway regular, I'd be more concerned.  But since I had a lot of BH last time, I figure they're just more annoying this time because they hurt.   The pubic bone pain is new to this morning, but I'm nearing the end, so aches and pains are going to tend to increase, not decrease.

    Thanks ladies!
