Parenting after a Loss

Clothing ?

So, I make it a point not to spend more than $5 on an article of clothing for DS, especially at this age where he's growing at such a rapid rate. But jackets, those are going to cost more. I've got to get him a fall jacket, rain coat/windbreaker, and start looking into a winter coat/snowsuit. I found a rain coat/windbreaker and a fall coat at Target, $9.99 and $16.99 respectively. Do you think that's too much for something he's only going to wear for one season? Would you consignment shop around first or just go for it? How do you rationalize spending money on items LO will only wear for one season, not knowing whether future LO's will need that same item in that season and size?

  • I don't think that's too much at all!  I guess I just rationalize it because I know he needs this stuff.  Especially when it's something like a jacket, you know he will wear it probably every day for at least a couple months.  And since you go super cheap on everything else for him, I think a jacket is worth a little extra investment.

I would have to agree with this.  He will definitely get a lot of use out of a jacket/coat.

That's true. Once fall hits us it's here to stay and we will be outside walking every day...I guess he'll get his fair share of use out of them. Thanks!

Also, not sure if you saw my post yesterday, but how are you already so far along!? Time is flying! How are you doing?

  • I have bought plenty of things on sale and have also bought many things from local consignment shops.  Every now and then I will pick up something that is full price - I figure so long as I make an effort to get what I can at discount, it's OK if I spend more on occasion.

  • I don't think that's bad at all for jackets.  I would get them.  I do a lot of consignment shopping, thanks to my sister I get a lot of great deals.  But I don't mind spending money on things like that that she would get a lot of use out of.

Yeah, that's good for a jacket. Something like a t-shirt is different because he won't wear it every day... some onesies or shirts have been worn once and into storage they go - so I do not spend much on those!
