  • Are you aware that it's only dangerous if your cat goes outside and hunts small animals? Then you have a chance at getting toxoplasma which comes from the cats feces. If he's an indoor cat like mine, shouldn't be any worries.

  • Also if you changed the cat's litter before you got pregnant, you've probably already been exposed to that bacteria anyways. My DH normally does the litter and I feed the cats, so when the litter is looking pretty sad, I normally grab a cat and have the cat tell him, "Please clean my litter box." It works better if the kitties nag him...
  • Honestly if your cat even has toxoplasmosis, which it shouldn't if it's a strictly an indoor cat, and you have been changing the litter before getting pregnant then you already have been infected. And you have to be infected WHILE pregnant for the baby to be affected.

Next time, just bug the hubby...you're growing a baby, the least he can do is the litter.

  • I felt bad about DH being stuck with cat box duty, so I bought him a present. The new automatic cat box came in today, hehe. :)
  • We just bought one of those automatic litter boxes last pregnancy. It scoops after they go and puts it in a little plastic box. DH throws it away when he gets home.

I know the risk of toxoplasmosis. Both of our cats are indoor cats and I have had cats my whole life so I am pretty sure I already have the antibodies against it. I usually scoop the litter box and its the only time that I get out of doing it.

This is what my vet told me, too. Also, because my husband is crazy about kitty litter, too, we took our cat and had her tested for toxoplasmosis. She was negative, but the vet said that if a cat is positive there is a treatment they can do to cure it.
