Natural Birth

Please help

My brother was just killed on Friday night. It has been really rough on me and I have not been able to eat/drink/sleep. I was told to try the sleepy time tea and that seemed to help some, but not a whole heck of a lot. What recommendations do you ladies have on drinks or foods that I can eat small amounts of that would get the best nutrition possible to the baby? Anything that you have used that is safe to help get some sleep? I really appreciate any advice.

Re: Please help

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  :(

I would check with your doctor about what sleeping meds you can take.  I know there are some that are safe, because I had to take them one time at the end of my last pregnancy, because contractions were keeping me up every night.  I forget what they gave me.

In terms of nutrition, just try to eat a lot of protein, greens, whole grains, good fats/oils and fruits.  Make sure you're drinking a lot of water and taking your vitamin.

So sorry again.  I will pray for you and your family.

  • So sorry.

For sleeping, my midwives were okay with Unisom. They also recommended Rescue Remedy.

  • I'd look for something like Ensure or a protein type shake with vitamins in it that you're not getting if you're not eating.

  • so sorry to hear of your loss.

i was prescribed ambien in my last pregnancy and they assured me that it was fine.  ask your dr. or midwife if it is okay for you.  it will definitely help you sleep.  obviously, it is medication that you would probably rather avoid but if you keep losing sleep you will become run down and even more stressed which won't be good for you or the baby.  maybe only take it when you are going to bed and you can tell that you are experiencing anxiety that is probably going to keep you awake.

  • I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother.. I know the feeling all to well.. I lost my brother last June suddenly while on a family beach trip... Thoughts and many prayers for you and your family..

My MW is okay with Unisom also.. If you cant eat maybe try some type of drink with protein in it..

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I don't have much advice on what to take for sleep, but as for what to eat, protein shakes (preferably something without too much sugar), organic chicken broth or chicken soup, and almonds are all easy for me to get down and are all packed with good nutrition. HTH.

  • I am very sorry for your loss.

    I would discuss this difficulty with your doctor. I was told I could take Unisom or Benadryl. I usually take only half a dose and it is plenty.  Also, a warm bath, tea and some exercise can help-both with sleep and your general well being in this hard time. {hugs}

ETA: Eggs are also always easy for me to eat. I usually scramble them, but hard boiled is good too. Add some cheese for a little more protein and calcium.

For food, I've found that trail mix with added nuts and dried fruit can be easily carried and I don't have to think too much about eating, I can just pop a handful every now and then. Also be sure that in addition to eating as well as possible, you're staying well hydrated.

(((hugs))), and my thoughts are with you and your family.
