Quinn just woke up and he felt very hot...his fever is 100.6...he is also teething. He has never had a fever before, and I am not really sure when to worry. Does anyone know how high to be concerned about? Otherwise he is acting fine. I gave him some tylenol to bring it down.
Re: Question about Fever
For bean whenever he was teething or after he got shots, I piggybacked Tylenol & Motrin. Started with T, then 2 hrs later, M, then 4 hrs later T, 4 hrs after that, more M, and 2 hrs after that T. T can be taken every 6 hrs but not more than 4x in 24hrs, and M every 8 and not more than 3x in 24 hrs. (I think... I may have the 24 hr frequency wrong, but I know i have the spacing of the meds right)
No way the Bean's gettin' cooked!! Mama Ablou's got the fever cure!!
Damn, girl!! This is a serious strategy!! i had never even thought about it before!! Thanks!!
I did this when Silas had a fever from his earache. But he would shoot up fast and need both to come back down.
That's still a relatively low fever, Niki. It could very well be the teething. Once you're getting up into the high 101s and 102s, it's my experience that you're dealing with something other than teeth.
My non-medical mommy advice? Give Q some Tylenol or Motrin. If he's really fussy, you can combine the Tylenol or Motrin with some Orajel on his gums (usually one or the other will do the trick for my kids). Rock him, love on him. Usually the fever part of teething only lasts for a few days, if that.
Keep an eye out for other symptoms that might indicate something other than teeth.
Duh. Just re-read your post and you've already done this. Don't mind me, I'm a doofus.
And for your other question, once you hit 103, you want to put in a call to your pedi. 104 would warrant a visit to urgent care. My aunt is the head nurse practitioner of a pediatric ICU--I call her all the time. She has told me to ride it out every time but one, and that was a couple of months back when Sam spiked a 103.2 fever. That was her breaking point. She had previously told me that anything 101.7 or over for 6 months and younger should warrant a phone call to the pedi.
