Anyone else not have a name for baby?

We had a girls name picked out..but we are having a boy. We don't agree on anything, and a name we kind of like (Avery) most people associate with a girl.

Anyone else not have a name for baby yet? I'm only 18 weeks so I still have lots of time..I guess it's just getting a bit frustrating. Embarrassed

Re: Anyone else not have a name for baby?

  • We don't know what we're having yet, and we haven't seriously discussed names yet either.  We'll each throw out names we like here and there, but we're waiting until we find out.  Even then we probably won't really talk about it until it's a lot closer to my due date.  DD didn't have a name for 2 hours after she was born.

  • FWIW, the only Avery I know is a man.

We have gotten nowhere in terms of names. There are a couple of girls names we kind of like but for various reasons can't use them. When we looked at boy names we just ended up cracking jokes. We're finding it really hard to think of a name for someone we haven't met yet and the responsibility is a bit overwhelming.

We'll find out the sex on Friday and that should guide us a bit (if it's a boy, we'll name after people but not if it's a girl). We have plenty of time.

We have discussed a few names, but we haven't agreed on anything yet. I guess when we find out the gender in a week, we'll be more serious about deciding. :)

  • We don't have a name yet either... or should I say we don't agree on a name yet. DH has his heart set on Waylon and I don't like it at all. He even has our 2 year old neice saying "Baby Waylon is in Auntie's tummy".

You're right though, we have lots of time. I'm not too worried about it yet.

  • We only throw names out, I haven't registered yet, nor picked out anything for the babies room. I have plenty of time!

  • I picked out a boy name 2 days before my u/s... I guess kind of luckily, because it's a boy. A friend of mine suggested to just start making a long master list of names you like, and have DH do the same, and compare... look at each others' lists and cross off names you don't like, circle ones you do... you'll come up with something.

Waylon is not my style. It seems too much like "wailin" and that seems too silly when the baby is really wailing. Maybe that will help dissuade your H?

  • ME.

We had a few girl names picked out but we found out yesterday that babe's a BOY! So we're totally stuck.

I'm finding there's so many of the same "common" names, like Matthew, Jacob, etc.

And it doesnt help that all the names I throw out there, hubby says "no" to.

  • Avery is nice and I don't associate it with a girl.  I'm almost 18 weeks and we agree more on boy names than girl names, but we still don't have one picked out yet but I'm not stressing until we find out the gender at 21 weeks then I figure I'll start looking seriously.

On another note I will say that any name we have kinda agreed on, if we have mentioned it to someone else they always have something negative to say about it so if you guys do have a hard time agreeing on a name once you find one that you like I would maybe keep it to yourself so that you don't have to go back to the drawing board because of their opinions. Good luck Wink

  • ME!!

We found out last Tuesday that we're expecting a girl and can't agree on a name. I'm not to worried though because we, like everyone said, have plenty of time.

  • We were kind of handed a name more than anything else. Joseph is my DH's father name and the first boy is named after their grandfather in their family and Michael is my father's name. It was pretty simple. A girl's name was going to be harder so it became pretty easy once the u/s tech told us he was a boy.

    This exactly.

  • We don't have any names either.  Like everyone else, we've tossed around a bunch of names, but haven't really agreed on anything just yet.  Once we find out whether it's a boy or girl I'll think about it more, however, I don't plan on picking a name for my child until he or she is born.  I know a lot of people already give their baby a name prior to birth, but I personally want to meet my child first.  My mom did that with my brothers and I.  She said once she laid eyes on us she just knew.  That's what I plan on doing also.
  • We have our anatomy scan on Thursday.  Once we find out if we are having a boy or girl we will then start discussing names. :)

    Same here.

We have a girl's name picked out because even though DS was confirmed a boy by u/s twice, we wanted to be prepared.  We're a little more lost on a boy's name, but we'll wait for our anatomy scan on 9/7 to really start discussing it, if need be.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one. We just got nursery furniture yesterday, but besides that I really haven't done too much. I have been calling him lil' barfy cause of how sick I had been, but that's not going to stick. hehe

  • We have been throwing names around since we found out we were having a baby.  I think we are pretty settled on a girl name - Aurora and I thought we had a boy name Kain Davram but DH told me yesterday he likes Davram much better then Kain and I hate Davram as a first name so I guess we are back to square one for a boys name.  We find out Friday what we are having!

  • We don't have a clue.  We have our u/s on Friday, so we're waiting until after that.
  • We have names picked but it doesn't mean we'll use them, I had Nathaniel picked out for DS but I sawDH's crushed look when we found out we were having DS and we decided on a different name 2 weeks later Smile some parents dint choose a name until the baby comes. You'll work it out. Good luck!
  • We have a girl name, but we are 90% sure we're having a boy and are completely lost on boys' names.

FWIW, the only Avery I know is a boy; I don't know any girls with the name.

DS (7 years old) from FET in 2010
DD (5 years old) from IUI in 2012
TTC 3rd and final!: IUI #1 in progress!
  • We haven't even started talking names yet - DH wants to wait until we know what we're having.  We do have a boy name that we both kind of like, but I'm not sure I like it enough to actually use it.

  • I haven't chosen a name yet.  I hope to find out the gender on Monday.  Still looking through the baby name book trying to get some more names for a boy.  I already have 2 girl names I like but nothing is set in stone.
  • W'e're not 100% decided on a name yet, even though I have a pretty good idea of the one we both like the best. And....I had a boy named Avery in class three years ago! Great kid, great family, and a good boy's name, too! Stick with it if you end up still liking that one the best!

  • have a few maybes but really haven't even discussed yet
  • No name here!  We tossed names back and forth my entire pregnancy with DD and she was not officially named until the day after she was born!

This time, we don't have one name we agree on at ALL - we are waiting until the big u/s and then I guess we will continue our battle!!!
