Anyone have good or bad experience at either one of these hospitals? I'm going to try to pick my new doc based on where I will deliver when the time comes. Thanks!

Re: Also, Valley vs. HUMC
Never been to Valley but hear great things about HUMC. Plus in the last few years they opened a Women's Center and we went on the tour for when I deliver -- amazing!

I did a similiar poll on thenest NJ local board before picking my ob/gyn. The recs leaned more towards HUMC. I have heard great things about Valley as well, but after doing a little research I found that HUMC was better. I still love Valley and get my primary care and breast health care through them.
I think both are great hospitals, so I would probably look to find the ob/gyn that you like the best that is affiliated with either one(that's what I did).

Here We Go Again!!
I work at HUMC and have been floated to Antepartum and Mother Baby many times. My sister had her baby at Valley 7 years ago. Both hospitals have a similar CS rate (about 50%).
HUMC:
- All private rooms. Some with beds for dad.
- It is a teaching hospital, so you may get students as doctors or nurses. This can be a good and a bad thing
- If you go in during a busy time, they will encourage you to leave as early as can, not to stay as long as you are entitled. It can be a bit of a factory.
- The 5th floor is over flow and I have found "non-visitors" or "non-patients" stealing food from the family kitchen. It's not as secure as the 4th floor which has a guard at the door and locked doors to get in..unless you use the service elevators. Although I've never heard of a baby being stolen.
- If you ever have a problem, don't be afraid to call consumer affairs through the operator. That's what they are there for.
Valley:
- They have a new holistic birthing program.
- They will allow midwives.
- Some of the rooms are semi private (two patients to a room), but most are private.
- They have a family buffet. (YUM!)
- free valet parking
- is in a safe neighborhood
It's your choice. I'm going with a group that includes a midwife, MD and NP because they give a lot of time to ask questions during the office visits and their CS rate is very low. My OB's office only goes to Valley, so that's where I'm going!
