I have a small addiction to browsing online and my current topic of obsession is planning DS's big boy bedroom. He's still in his crib and hopefully will be for a long time (until the day he can get out of it that is). When he does manage to monkey his way out, we plan to transition straight to a regular twin size bed (due to room size, we don't want to go bigger). What are some of your favorite places to look for ideas, shop for furniture (besides PBK and LoN) and linens? I'm not sure how much to budget for the furniture end of things...I imagine we'll need a twin bed (& mattress), bedside table, and maybe a low dresser. Any ideas?
Re: Let's talk big boy/girl bedrooms
I actually like Ikea, mostly b/c you can get any furniture off CL for half the price. And they show whole rooms that you can get ideas from.
For Ollie's room, we got a wood Ikea twin bed (CL), then got bedding from Marshall's. We kept the rest the same, and put up new pictures that werent as baby-ish. We just rearranged so everything would be safe for when he gets out of bed.
This is my new obsession too! Beths2006 had me in a PBK frenzy a few weeks back and I had close to $500 in my cart just for quilt, sheets, and a rug. We?re going with IKEA. N?s room is tiny so I picked a bed that has storage underneath , a shelf for books above it, a dresser (or the short one), and a $15 duvet instead of a $180 quilt. Why spend that much on bedding for someone who's not potty tranied? All that's about $350 and I figure another $300 or so on a mattress, paint, a rug, and wall art.
I found boys bedding to be very limited, but Target and Kohl?s had a few options. JC Penney had nothing. There?s also some custom sites out there that are more pricey, but not crazy compared to PBK/LoN. Costco has had some nice furniture in the warehouses. Cribs2Bunks in Tukwila and Go To Your Room in Bellevue are other options.
I'm in the same boat. I have been looking at jc penneys and then I google kids bedrooms and have found lots of sites that have very reasonable prices and offer free shipping! Costco to me is on the high end of the pricing compared to some of the stuff I have found. This is a great site

I found M's twin bed and matching side table on CL for $150. They are a cranberry color pbk style. Then we got dark brown short dresser and matching bookshelf at Ikea. We did a dog theme, as I had sheets from pbk kids I got on ebay along time ago, that I paired with a chocolate brown quilt. I have a duvet, I can put over it but didn't want to spend the $$ on a down quilt.
Marshall's is awesome for sheets, we have 2 others pairs in fun pbk type patterns, wash really well and are a good thread count (300) for a kid.
I have pics on fb if you want to see...
This is what I want for my kids' rooms!

Thanks everyone! I have been actively stocking CL and checking eBay (for linens) but I'm thinking that once people buy their kids a twin bed, they use it for years and it's beat when they sell it. Or maybe the newer ones just get bought up really quick on CL and I don't see them.
The search shall continue....
