Just encountered a new "Grace" variation . . .

Gracia. Grah-see-ah is a Spanish/Latin variation of Grace and I had previously heard it. This mother wants it pronounced: grayce-ee-ah, like Gracie with an extra syllable! I imagine the poor little girl will be correcting people for a lifetime.

I think, actually, most people will be inclined to pronounce it Grace-ee-uh, UNLESS they're Hispanic or speak Spanish as a second, third, etc. language.

Maybe, but I also see people trying to equate it with a like name, like Lucia, which can be pronounced loo-sha, loo-chee-ah, and loo-see-ah. Also, the emphasis is on the first syllable, not the second, so even those people who inherently pronounce it like loo-see-ah will still pronounce gray-SEE-ah, instead of GRACE-ee-ah, like the mother wants. Either way, it's a head shaker for me.

I think, regardless of ethnicity, most Americans have had enough experience with Spanish to be inclined to pronounce it Grah-see-uh, as OP suggests.

I agree. It's very similar to gracias and I think most people know how to pronounce that.

Gray-see-uh is just weird IMO and doesn't sound as pretty.

I went to school with a guy named Gracia..pronounced Grah-Shuh, so that's how I would pronounce it

Ugh. It's such a pet peeve of mine when people BUTCHER the Spanish language. Maybe it's got other roots I don't know about in other languages where it is pronounced differently, but to me it is clearly Spanish and that is a totally made up and murderous mispronunciation.
