Working Moms

Back to work - BFing moms

I SAH with DD for 7 months, I just had my first day at work, and DD had her first full day with the nanny.  I'm a teacher and spent maternity leave + summer break at home, so I'm super excited about being back in the classroom.  DD had a great first day with the nanny.  We had a transition week last week where I slowly left her for increased amounts of time - and the first day was rough.  DD cried pretty much the whole day and refused to eat/drink.  Today, she drank about 8 oz during the day + all her solids, which is still not a full amount of milk, but at least she's happy and playing and on her usual nap schedule.  Today, I had to nurse her for a super long time when I got home.  Is this just how it's going to be - not having a lot of milk during the day, and then going on a nursing binge when I get home?  I do nurse her before I leave in the morning, but she should be having 2 servings during the day while I'm gone.

  • She's probably just adjusting to her new schedule.  Hopefully, the more comfortable she gets with having the nanny around, the more she'll drink during the day.

  • I was told at the hospital that could happen they say its normal. My DD did the same thing the first couple of days and now she drinks more at daycare and when i get home she still binges when i get home.

  • Hard to say.  She might be adjusting or she might end up not eating much at daycare and making up for it later.  DS went through periods where he didn't eat much at daycare, although he didn't always try to make up for it later.  She could also just be wanting to cuddle and be close to you.

  • I've going on my third week back, and DD is still doing that.  She takes a lot of convincing to even take 8-9 oz during the day, and then drinks a lot in the evening/morning before I leave (Mondays are usually the worst).  She just had a doctor's appointment yesterday, though, and she's 95% on weight, so it seems like its working for her, anyway.
