Cribs

DH and I have started looking at cribs and are a bit unsure besides style and one that has fixed sides, what we should be looking for. We are definitely interested in a convertible crib (one that transitions as the baby gets older) What are key points to look for?

Re: Cribs

  • I would recommend buying the book baby bargains - it has lots of good info.

Definitely fixed sides, and I don't recommend anything with a changing table attached, as the kiddo can climb onto it!

learning from experience, we bought an outrageously expensive pottery barn convertible crib. I love it. But we weren't ready for DS to leave our room, and so we ended up buying a ikea crib..and it works JUST AS WELL!

  • We have the Graco Lauren and love it. It was rated well, has one of the lowest formeldehyde ratings, and was inexpensive. Good luck!

  • We settled on the Baby Italia Pinehurst Classic crib from Babies R Us.  We looked for one that was sturdy, met the standards required by law (though I think they all do - we asked anyways) and one that doesn't scratch easily.  I really don't think you can go wrong with what is out there.  I do think drop-side cribs are going away, so you may want to stay away from those.  Good luck!

  • We purchased the Gulliver crib from IKEA. It's gotten a lot of great reviews and was part of the Baby Bargains book. For just $99 in white it's a steal! It was quite easy to assemble and I'm sure it's going to be great when the little one arrives in a few days. :)
