Hi everyone. We are expecting our first little one and are trying to decide on what hospital to have our baby at. Has anyone had any experience with these hospitals? Thanks for all replies.
I actually have experience at both. My 18 month old was born at Presby Rockwall. It was a horrible experience. The nurses were unorganized and unsure of where to find the equipment the dr asked for. At one point my dr asked for a light to help with stitching me up and they came in with a flashlight. Then my son had to be transported to LakePoint to the NICU ( he was born at 34 weeks). Of the two Id defiantely pick LakePoint. However I had a 3 week old so. And I chose Baylor Dallas for his birth. I would definately reccomend that hospital!!! My son was born at 31 weeks 5 days and their NICU is top notch! I know you don't want to think about the possibility of needing a NICU ( it never crossed my mind withmy first) but it MAY happen. Baylor has a amazing staff. I spent a month there between hospital bedrest, labor and delivery, and the NICU. The nurses were all so knowledgeable and great. The NICU had better pracices ( kangaroo care especially) and was a more comfortable place to spend your days if you had to. Sorry so long. Ask questions if you have them and I'll try to answer
I live in the Rockwall area and had my DS almost 2 years ago. It was not long after Presby Rockwall opened. I chose to drive to Presby Dallas to have my son. I was deciding between that an Baylor Dallas. Everyone I know had a horrible experience at Lake pointe and presby Rockwall was way to new. I wanted the bigger hospital and a great NICU. I personally don't have any experience with either. Just what friends have told me. My experience with Presby Dallas was awesome.
I had my son 3 weeks ago at Presby Rockwall and didn't have any problems. Everyone was super nice and great bedside manners. I heard mixed reviews before I delivered there but I had a good experience.
I live in Mesquite and chose Baylor Dallas and loved the experience there. I also loved the fact that they have such a good NICU so if something were to have gone wrong, we could have been at the same hospital with LO....
I wish going to Dallas was a choice. My doctor only delivers at those 2 hospitals so I'm kind of torn as what to do. I guess I'll have to wait until it gets closer to the date.

that's the main reason I switched practices. I had gone to Lakepoint Womens clinic in Rowlett until I found out they only deliver at those two hospitals....but I also just moved here and haven't really settled on a Dr there anyway.

Lake Point Medical is horrible. My sister was involved in a bad accident and was sent there. BIG mistake. They told her she had several broken ribs, a lacerate kidney, and lacerated spleen. They then told her she needed emergency surgery and wanted to transfer her to Parkland. She went to Parkland and was told she only had a lacerated spleen that can heal itself. No need for surgery. They jump to conclusions too quickly and got her all upset.
I have only heard positive things about Presby Rockwall.
We live in Rowlett and have decided to go to Medical City for the delivery (due Nov). I love my doctor and am very comfortable with the whole practice. I have gone there for years. Plus it is the only hospital in the area that has a complete children's hospital on site. Obviously Children's Dallas is excellent and the only Level 1 children's hospital in the area.
We are not expecting anything to go wrong, but it is good to know that if it does there are neonatologist and pediatric pulmonologist on site (not on call) 24/7.They actually have a team on standby at the birth if the LO appears to be in any trouble. The majority of the time they will just check little one out and realease them to you or the reg nursery, but in a worse case situation they can immediately step in.
As for the Presby Rockwall, we were in the ER recently (DH hurt his knee). The staff was very nice and quick to respond. They do not have a NICU at all. This would bother me.
We have never been to Lake Point but we have only heard bad reviews from the people we know in the area. They do have a NICU and are the transfer hospital for Presby Rockwall if the baby needs a NICU.
Thanks for your responses. I'm at a lose because I LOVE my doctor but he's only at these 2 hospitals. I guess I will just wait until it gets closer to the time and if they anticipate any problems deliver at Lakepoint and if everything seems okay go to Presby. I dunno... Thanks though
Re: Lake Point Medical Center Rowlett or Texas Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall
My husband works at both those hospitals. They are both pretty small and I haven't heard great reviews from either on the maternity ward....
I live in Garland and am choosing to drive to Plano for prenatal care and delivery.

Good Luck on your choice!
