I have a big girl on my hands. She is very close to out growing her PNP. The weight limit for it is 30lbs. I weighed her this morning and she was 28lbs.

My question is, what do I do when we travel? like visiting grandparents? They both have PNPs, but now I am worried that she is getting too big for them, both height and weight wise. She is not ready for a 'big girl' bed, or anything without 4 walls, lol. Is there something that I am not thinking about, or are we going to have to curb our traveling until she transitions?

We travel a lot with DS and use the Peapod Plus toddler bed/tent - it is awesome. Packs up very small, lightweight, and plenty of room (I fit in there once with him when he was having a bad night, LOL). I wasn;t sure how he would handle it when we first started (we had him use it when he outgrew the PNP but was still in a crib at home), but he took to it right away. Several of our friends use it as well and all love it.

Maybe I'm a crazy risk taker, but I would keep using the pack-n-play even if she's over 30 lbs. I can't imagine a few extra pounds would cause a catastrophic failure of the pack-n-play.

Is she walking yet? I ask because when they start walking they seem to really start burning more calories and their weight gain levels off. So 2 lbs could be another 4 mos away.

I think I'd keep using the PNP too until she's 35+ lbs and then maybe she'll be ready for a toddler blow up bed (the aero bed has little bumpers all around so she won't easily roll out) or the other bed mentioned here.

We have a Joovy PNP, with a industry standard weight limit of 30lbs too. However the Joovy is 10x as sturdy than the PNP will ever me IMO (we have both) and we will continue using it. DS is 26lbs. Its amazing, DS is so used to it, we put it in our room with us and he sleeps through the night!

The joovy is 10x10 so you don't get that feeling its gonna tip like a PNP does. People have commented on Amazon how adults (130lbs) have crawled into the Joovy with their child and it held perfectly, would I do that? No. But by the time DS is in a toddler bed, we'll probably just get the Aero Blow Up Bed for Kids. Its for ages 3+

Until then, many hotels carry cribs for younger children instead of just PNPs. I would ask around first before booking any rooms. The Joovy isn't very flight friendly, since its pretty bulky.

This may sound very fresh and I really don't mean it to, but what exactly happens when you put a 35 pound child in a Pack 'N Play? I mean, it's a PNP, not a car seat or even a swing. I'm not envisioning major bodily harm resulting from disregarding the weight limit by a few pounds.

Yes, she is walking. And I, too, have taken the slower weight gain into consideration. I was also asking because she is very tall. Dh and I are concerned about her being cramped in the PNP.

I have a very tall (39 inches!) little guy who is 31 lb and if we were in a pinch (and he still slept in a crib) I would totally use the PNP.

Not sure where you are traveling to, but have you searched the area for a company/store that rents baby equipment. Most areas have these, you can rent a crib for a week or more. They deliver it and even set it up for you before you get there. This is what we will be doing when we go to Miami in January. My girls are also too big for pnp's at this point but are not in toddler beds yet. So I am renting 2 cribs for a week that will be set up in the condo we are staying at.

You can google baby equipment rentals in the area you will be staying and see what is available. Just another thought if you don't want to purchase something for long term. For me my girls are going to probably move into a toddler bed by next spring or summer so I am not going to buy any more baby gear to travel with.
