I actually wondered this myself. I've never actually seen anyone besides the PA. I would assume you would meet the OB, but still see the PA for routine visits? I could be wrong though...

I don't see the PA at my OBGYN's office, but the one they have is trained to see women through their pregnancies. I don't think she delivers, but she does conduct the regualr visits. I think if it was a high risk pregnancy you'd be referred to the Dr., but otherwise I think PA's are fine to continue seeing.

I usually see the P.A., too, because she has the quickest appointments available. I am not sure how they handle it in case of a pregnancy, but feel the same way as you, lmj. If she wouldn't deliver the baby, I would want to see the actual doctor who does throughout the pregnancy.
I know a couple of people who have OB/GYN offices with PAs. I think they see a PA for many of their routine appointments then the doctor for "big" appointments, if they ask due to concern, and the last few appointments.
I don't really see the big deal in seeing a PA. My PCP's office had them for years and often they were more helpful than the doctors, and I could get in right away.
I don't think I'd mind seeing one throughout pregnancy if it meant lowering my risk of waiting forever if the doctor got called out for a delivery. And many of the appointments are rather routine, something a PA can do easily. Heck, even in labor, it's often the L&D nurses who you see more than the doctor until actual delivery.

I used to practice as a PA in an OB office- and I would see 99% of the new OB appointments. Then the MD and I woujld alternate between the following visits- mostly b/c the doctor IS very busy, and I had the time to spend with the OB patients and address their concerns. And, the visits are pretty much the same until the internals come in to play. She always did the last 4 visits (35 weeks+). She was a single MD practice, so the only person delivering the babies was her or somene she shared call with in a separate practice (so the patients never met that person).
In my practice there are two OBs, one midwife, and then 2 nurse practitioners. I had seen the NPs for a few years for my annuals and such and then when I got pregnant with DS I still saw the NPs until I was a few months along and then rotated between the OBs and MW for the rest of the pregnancy.
i saw a pa or a mw once or twice an ob...just depended on who was available...
just fyi most places here in oregon anyway the dr you see during your pregnancy isnt necessairly the one who deleviers you...its actually quite uncommon for the dr you see to be the one who delivers the baby...so for me it dosent matter who i see because i know they wont be doing the delivery

I do the same thing.
When I got my false positive last month they set me up with the OB!

I love the PA but if she can't deliver the baby then I'm not sure I'd want to see her through a pregnancy. Thanks for the help!
I find it so weird that people don't see their actual doctors. I always see the doctor regardless of why I am there.
**TTC since 10/2009** **BFP 4/15/12- Dx Molar Pregnancy- Surgery 5/15/12 & 5/22/12** **BFP 1/23/14- 1st Beta (1/24/14) 171 2nd Beta (1/28/14) 860**
I've been seeing the PA b/c I can see her a lot sooner than if I were to schedule with the actual Dr.
