We are TTC #1 and DH and I have been discussing Doctors. . . So my questions for you girls are . . .
If you already have a doctor. .
How did you pick a doctor, did you interview them? Find out through friends or family?
Did you pick a solo or group doctor? What made you decide to go with them?
if you do not have a doctor yet. . .
How do you plan to choose? Why?

Re: OBGYN questions. . .
Well, I've only lived in atlanta a little over three years which means I've been to my OBGYN practice only 3 times. I'm not married to the practice, but unless I can find a good reason to leave them, I'll just stick with them for the pregnancy.
I initially chose them for location and insurance reasons without giving it a thought for potential pregnancies in the future. But the hospital they are affiliated with is really nice and has a low c-section percentage.
I have delivered with the same OB both times. My mom found them for me. They came highly recommended through her coworkers. I like that it is a group practice with midwives as well as doctors so they are as natural birth friendly as you can get in the hospital, but also have the capacity to see me through a high risk pregnancy...I didn't have to change providers when I was diagnosed with GD.
It really depends on your personality. Set your priorities and find a doctor who matches you.
This is going to sound odd...but my DH found me my new OBGYN when we moved. He used to sell birth control in the area and he said they were the best.
They are also connected to the only natural birthing center in the area so it was a double win.

I love my current doctor. I picked her after she performd my mom's hysterectomy years ago because we really liked her beside manner and she was knowledgeable, but young enough to be "up" on things. She was also in the practice my mom had been at for years, so I was comfortable with all the doctors there.
However, I will be getting a new doctor when I actually do get pregnant. My current doctor's office is located about 20 minutes from my office and over 30 from my home and neither it nor the hospital she delievers at are easy to get to from either location. So, once I am pregnant, I will be choosing a doctor who has privileges at one of the two hospitals I'm decided between. I have many friends who have delivered at both, so I've just been keeping a list of recs for when the time comes.
I was seeing my primary care doctor for annual pap exams, but when I was going to start trying I started seeing an Certified Nurse Midwife who is part of an OB-GYN practice.
I ended up going with a recommendation from my best friend, who had her 3 children delivered by this CNM. I met her for a pre-conception appointment and she was wonderful. Shortly after my appointment, we got pregnant and I had a m/c. My experience with the office was really wonderful throughout everything I went through, so now I feel even more sure that I'll be staying with this practice when I get pregnant again.
m/c 6/10
The first thing I did was look to see who was in my insurance coverage network. Then I narrowed it down to proximity to work and home. I looked at all the reviews on the doctors and their bios/work history online. I picked a doctor who said she specialized in exercise during pregnancy and surgery during pregnancy because those are two things that are important to me. I'm very happy with her, and she is a great listener!
Good luck finding a great doctor.

Ditto. I'd been to a doctor before her who always seemed to be in a rush with each patient. My doctor is never like that.
If you already have a doctor. .
How did you pick a doctor, did you interview them? Find out through friends or family? At the OBGYN's office where I went before pregnancy I always just saw a nurse practitioner. While I really liked her, she wasn't a midwife and can't deliver babies. At my first appt while I was pregnant, they asked if there was anyone I wanted to request seeing. I prefer women dr's, and they said they have a woman midwife. After my first appt with her, I knew she was the person that I wanted to deliver my baby. The problem with the larger practice that I go to, is that you never know which dr you are going to get when you deliver. We got lucky and I went into labor the day she was there. I am really really really hoping we will get lucky again this time.
Did you pick a solo or group doctor? What made you decide to go with them? Kind of explained above. Oh, and the reason I also chose her is because I had heard horror stories of one of the other dr's at the practice. I have since referred her to one of our good friend's and also my SIL. They both love her too. She delivered 2 of my friend's babies.
if you do not have a doctor yet. . .
How do you plan to choose? Why?
My pap was due around the same time we originally planned to ttc... I had moved since my last exam, so, had to find a new dr...
I started with the list of providers my ins would cover. That list had information about each one, such as gender (I personally prefer a woman for OB/GYN services), certifications, etc. I was also able to see that this office in particular has both doctors and mw, so, from this I inferred that the doctors are open to more natural options. This helped narrow it down.
From there, I picked one that seemed good and went in for a pap/pre-conception with the idea of getting to know her, etc. We clicked and I'm happy but if that hadn't been the case, I'd try another one as soon as I got KU'd up if a midwife can't keep me as a patient, maybe asking her for a recommendation. (In my area, the MWs take you on as soon as you get pg but not before.)
Same here!!!
