Adoption

Question for you!

I have a quick question for you.

Β My DF was born in Michigan, later was moved to Β Mississippi with his birth mother, then when he was 4yrs old, was adopted to another family in Mississippi.Β

He is joining the army now and needs a copy of his birth certificate and no one seems to be able to help us. We called the Ms courthouse and they can't find it, called the Michigan courthouse and they told us all they have is the original birth certificate and would have to go up there and appear in court to get it. I don't think we need his original unamended birth certificate.

So anyways to my question, where would his amended birth certificate be? Sorry, I know it might be a stupid question... but TIA!Β

Re: Question for you!

  • Are his adoptive parents still living? If so, I would start with them. I would think they would have a copy.

If there are not, or do not have a copy, I would think the best place would be through MS courts. Was he adopted through an agency or the state? That might be another avenue as far as inquiring to them how to go about obtaining it.

    Good luck!

  • What has he used so far???? I mean to get into school and driver lic. and such. My DH does not have his orginal birth certificate either because he was born in Japan. He has a letter with Henry Kissenger signature saying that he was born that is dated several months after his birth. DH was also adopted by his step-father so whatever they had was filled with the court back them. The letter has worked for DH but it looks nothing like a birth certificate.

    Good Luck.

  • Have you tried ordering a certified copy through one of the online sites?Β  VitalChek is who we have used several times.
