Hi. I am interested in daycare in the NOLA area. Preferably around Lakeview, old Metarie, City Park, Fouberg St. John, or the Elmwood/Harahan areas. I heard you have to get on a list as soon as you find out your PG. Is that true? If so, can anyone recommend a place in my preferred areas that takes a baby as young as 3 to 6 months? I'm also not sure if I will be able to handle that so I have a lot of things to look into (leave, part-time/full-time, etc...). I was also wondering about nannies (recommendations, costs, various arrangements). I don't have family in the area so I truly appreciate your thoughts. We still have to pay the bills no matter what we decide...
Re: day care/nanny
This is the list i've compiled in the old met, uptown area which take infants. I would definitely get on list soon because infant rooms are really small at most facilities.

I just wanted to say I've worked at both La Petite and Abeona House, and they've both helped me decide to NEVER put my child in daycare.
With Abeona House, the care is pretty good, but the administration is a total wreck. The teacher turnover rate is crazy because Emmy has no clue what she's doing.
With La Petite, I had to hound the director about several things. The bottles weren't being sterilized correctly and were kept overnight closed while wet- which of course causes mildew, and no, they don't get rinsed before the first use the next morning. Also, the girls in the infant room can be pretty nasty to the babies. Instead of trying to find out what's wrong with them when they're fussing, they get angry at them. My biggest gripe is that I never once saw anyone else take the time to play with the babies or sing to them or read to them- anything! The rest of La Petite is fine... but when it comes to infants, that's one place I would never recommend.
DD was at La Petite from 7-12 weeks. We could not get her out of there fast enough!!! We switched to an in-home sitter (at her house) and will never go back to a day care. DD was miserable, barely ever played with (if ever) and got super sick within 1 week of being there. I can't say enough bad things about La Petite.
