I was looking to get some opinions on where to go for a babymoon....It will probably be in January, since that's when my fiance gets time off of work and I will have a new bank of vacation time. We currently live in central Indiana, and we are looking for a place where we can drive. We already go to Chicago so much, it wouldn't be much of a vacation to go there. I was looking into Washington, DC (we both love American History), but DC in January just isn't that appealing! Any suggestions on a drivable distance? We would drive anywhere about 10-12 hours (we take long car trips all the time, so we are both very used to it) but we just want to go somewhere that isn't....well... Indiana lol. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Re: Babymoon
New York City is beautiful in the winter...it might be a couple of extra hours drive, though.
Chicago, IL, Louisville, KY (there are some great B&Bs), Lake Geneva, WI (Great B&Bs), Memphis, TN (where I'm orignally from), Nashville, TN, Pigeon Forge, TN,
I live in Chicagoland, Out of all the ones I listed: go to Memphis. It's not as cold as Indiana
DC is FAB in Jan. There are NO tourists. I used to live in Arlington, VA for 6 years and we only went to the museums in the winter. You will have all of the FREE museums to yourself. Now I know that DC had a crazy winter this year (of course the year I don't live there!), but normally the winters are pretty mild. I had a friend come visit for New Year's and it ended up being in the high 50s the entire week she was there. Now two years ago, I froze my ass off for the Obama's inauguration, but that was for history's sake.
I say go to DC!!!
Oh, let me just tell you my restaurant recs now. Jaleo's- the best Spanish food in the world (Chef Jose Andres beat Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America!). Lebanese Taverna- awesome Lebanese food! Dukem- the best Ethiopian in the area! The most Ethiopian that live outside of Ethiopia live in DC! If you like dim sum, take the metro out to Silver Spring and go to Oriental East. You'll wait in line with huge Chinese families waiting for food, but it's totally worth it! If you rent a car, stop by Eden Center in Falls Church for the best Vietnamese on the East Coast (according to my husband's best friend's mom- she's Vietnamese) and on Little River Turnpike in Annadale for your choice of over 20 Korean BBQ restaurant. There's also a million Peruvian rotisserie chicken places to choose from. They are practically all named Pollo Rico.
Okay, now I'm hungry!
Thanks for all the suggestions! We will take all that into consideration when we are finalizing our plans.
Thanks!
