Solids = Gassy Baby?

The night we gave Karter apples she was up screaming and really gassy. Then we gave her rice cereal thinking it would have less of a gassy effect on her.  And still gassy baby.

When you started solids with your LO, were they exceptionally gassy or did it have no effect on him/her?  If they were gassy, how long did it last?

I am wondering if even though she's ready mentally, her body isn't ready for solids yet.  I think we are going to skip today's solid adventure and see if that makes the gassiness go away.

Re: Solids = Gassy Baby?

  • Yup! This is exactly what happened with Hayden. Bananas were ok- but avocado messed her up! I also think I was too eager to start solids- I only did it bc she would cry when I was eating something & she didn't get to try it. Now I'm waiting till we go to her ped next week to do anything else. I've also heard that cereals really bind babies up- which is a wonder why peds still recommend this as a first food. It really doesn't have much nutritional value- especially when compared to fresh fruits & veggies. I would wait it out- bFed babes truly get everything they need from that!

    I was told the reason rice cereal is the "go to" beginning solid is that no one in the world is allergic to rice?!

    Sorry, no advice on the gassiness but hope she's doing much better!

  • Ava + Rice cereal = very stinky tooties

    Cereal is definitely not binding her.  She is going just as much as when she first started her new formula.
