I am out of town and can't see my doctor until Aug 27th. I had to go to the ER for cramping/spotting and they did an HcG test and it is 438,000. I am only 8 weeks along (I know because I charted and had been seeing an RE) and it's ONE baby. I am freaking out because they said "this number is really high - follow up with your doctor" then wouldn't tell me anything else. I read high numbers like this can mean Downs or something genetic is wrong. Please can anyone ease my mind? Or any experiences like this?

did they do an ultrasound and check the baby? Was there a baby?
High HCG can be indicative of a molar pregnancy - but if they've seen a fetal pole and a heartbeat (which you should definitely have by 8 weeks) then a molar pregnancy is highly unlikely, and you should just follow up with your doctor like they recommended.
I'll also say that in my experiences in 2 years as an ER nurse, you have to take everything an ER doctor says regarding pregnancy with a grain of salt. Many of them don't know as much as you would think.
Dx: MFI, DOR, 9 Fibroids and homozygous MTHFR
