Changing diapers on the road

Where do you usually change LO's diaper when there isn't a changing station around?  JC.  I have changed her in the car, but I absolutely, positively hate it.

Why the heck don't all public restrooms have changing stations?  They have to have handicapped stalls don't they?  Can't they stick a changing station in the handicapped stalls?  I don't get it.

  • In the car.  Why do you hate it?

  • In the car. No biggie really.

  • I have a Honda Civic 2-door.  I have to do it on the driver's seat, which is just super awkward.  But, it's even more difficult getting her into her car seat.  I need a new car.
  • I like the car and sometimes choose to change him in the car instead of public bathroom.

Yeah, that would be tough.  We have a full-size pickup truck quad cab, so I change him in the back seat.  He's actually at the perfect height so it doesn't kill my back.  =)

2-door vehicles would be HORRIBLE with a carseat.

  • It's not fun to change LO in the backseat because the angle of the seats makes it difficult. If the back has an empty spot I open the back and change her there since it's flat (we have a Ford Edge). I've never found it to be a huge deal, though.

  • I'm not a fan of the in-car diaper changes either. I sit on the ground with my legs straight out and lay DD down in the groove between my legs. We do this at home a lot too, since she freaks out less. You can also get a travel changing pad to lay down anywhere.

  • I hate changing in the car. I have a smaller 4 door (Audi A4), but DS is super wriggly and really to big to do it easily. He always tries to sit up. It is easier in the back of DH's SUV but really not much.
  • The trunk. We always take our Jetta on road trips and the back seat is not big enough to lay B out, his carseat just takes too much space. The trunk, however, is big enough to stash a couple bodies so we change him there. It's a really good height too, not so low you that have to kill yourself bending over.

  • I was shopping at TJ MAXX and they do NOT have a changing station..... BRAND NEW store, I asked the manager why.  They said because of the liability.  So she sent me to the dressing rooms... the handicap changing rooms have nice big benches... worked out really well!
  • If its nice outside, I change her on the grass somewhere. I put down a receiving blanket and then the changing pad from the diaper bag. This works so much better than in the car. I had to change a diaper in the car once and DD was not a fan!
