It's bad enough you have to wait 8-10 weeks for your 1st appt pretty much anywhere, but no doc in NH will even let me have a peek at the little nugget for at least another month! I'm so jealous of all of you who have already seen/heard your baby!!!
My first appointment when I was pregnant with DD they did an u/s. I had no problems or spotting. I think it might be routine in my area. When I switched mw they did one also.
Are you high risk, or have a history of miscarriage?
Most people that have early appts and/or u/s are because they have dealt with loss or infertility. Be careful what you wish for.
Wow, I didn't know that. It's my first and I have just been reading posts about what everyone got to see or hear at 6 weeks. I'm sorry if this post came off wrong. I'm honestly just terrified and tired of waiting for answers.

It used to be routine with my ob, but they changed it shortly after I had Aidan.
Some places it is normal to do an early u/s to make sure of dates. The place I went with DS did that. But I am going for my 2nd u/s tomorrow because we did fertility treatment and I had 4 eggs that could have gone so wanted to see how many implanted and also because we need to be 100% on my due date do to me being high risk cause my son was born 5 weeks early after preterm at 28 weeks.

I know it's comforting to see the baby on the u/s, but at the same time I think it is a waste of money if there are no problems or history of problems. My insurance covers everything, but it's covered for by your tax dollars. DH is in the military. I'm considering declining the early u/s, but I did have some spotting (5 days) so I'm going to wait to see what my mw thinks.
I had my first appt with my obgyn at 4 weeks and they did blood work to confirm pregnancy; check progesterone levels; and my blood type. I go back at almost 8 weeks for first sono.

Well you don't know what you don't know, right? I've learned a ton since I started on here. When I got my first BFP, I honestly didn't even know what the next step was.. and I sort of assumed that I'd be seen by a dr. right away as well. I was shocked to hear that they don't normally book you in until close to the end of the first tri.
There are some that get to see the baby early on u/s even without a history of problems, but as I say.. the majority of "early monitoring" is due to issues in the past.
It's normal to be worried and think about the baby early on... especially without a re-assuring dr's appt or u/s. But just try to be patient, and learn what you can about your pregnancy in the early stages.... time will fly by, believe me! :-)
that's really strange they won't see you before then!! around 12 weeks I think I saw the doctor 2 or 3 times with my first. 12 weeks is the big scan that you need to do, need blood taken, etc. I'm going for my first appointment tonight but I feel this is too early :-/ last time it was almost 8 weeks
I was able to do one at 4 weeks. Nothing to see really . Hopefully this weeks will be a little better (6 weeks). At 4 weeks they were able to tell me if the baby was forming inside as opposed to outside of the uterus so I wouldn't call it a waste of money/time. That little bit of good news made our day.

The NT scan is something that has to be done. You decide if you want it or not.
Sorry you're frustrated. I know it's hard to wait! I had my first appt around 8wks (got in wk early because I had to have my ultrasound somewhere else because of insurance). We had our first ultrasound at about 9 1/2 wks. We just got to hear the heartbeat on Saturday at 12wks. I'm sure different doctors have different schedules that they do things. Hope you everything continues well for you and you get to see your little nugget soon enough. To add, I had miscarried in January and was not going to be seen until 10wks which happened to be the day I miscarried. So even the timing of those appts was different. GL!
