TRAVEL HELP PLEASE?!

I normally don't post on this board but I would appreciate your help.  We are taking a trip to Destin Florida the end of October with my daughter who will at that time be 18 months.  I know I don't have to get a seat on the flight, so I won't need a carseat.  I am able to rent a seat from the rental car company, but there will be a lapse in between our flight and when we get our rental car when I might have to take a taxi.  I've tried to research a travel carseat but they are all so expensive.  Any ideas on what to do?  Do I just take the carseat and check it in as luggage so I already have it with us?  HELP!

Re: TRAVEL HELP PLEASE?!

  • I'd just check the car seat. On the airlines we've used that charge for baggage, the car seat is always free.

  • Bring your carseat with you. You should bring it to the gate, because if they have a spare seat on the plane, they will give it to you for DD and you can bring the seat on. If not, you can gate-check the seat (like a stroller) and get it when you get off the plane. I'd recommend buying a bag for the seat, in case you have to check it, so it doesn't get dirty.

  • Just take your carseat.  It is free to check, and you can either buy a bag to put it in, or else the check-in desks will have plastic bags there.  You can check it at the counter, or you can gate check it.

Is this true?  We are flying with DD on Saturday.  We are bringing her carseat because we will need it at the other end, but we do not have a seat on the plane for her. What airline were you flying that let you do this?  Thanks

  • I think all airlines will let you use it if there's an empty seat.  I'd definitely take mine to the gate and try.  Make sure and bring something to wrap it in though in case you have to valet check it.
